May. 4th, 2020 08:00 pmFor 10 days, post the cover of a book you like and challenge someone else to join in.
Today's book is Never Pick Up Hitch-Hikers! by Ellis Peters.

(Taken from Amazon.) When Alf Jarrett spots the hitch-hiker, he thinks his prayers have been answered. William Banks is a personable young man of twenty, leaving home for the first time - and perfect for what Alf has in mind. William eagerly accepts Alf's offer of a free night's lodging and the chance to repay him for the lift, but he doesn't realise that in following Alf's instructions he is made the intended victim in a sinister plot of arson and murder. Only William's good fortune - and the timely intervention of a guardian angel in the form of a charming girl called Calli - saves him from becoming a corpse. Suddenly, William and Calli find themselves thrown into a case involving mistaken identity, bank robbery and murder, and they aren't the only ones on the trail...

Ellis Peters is mainly famous for her Cadfael series but she also wrote a number of modern mysteries that are well worth reading. This is one of her best (along with City of Gold and Shadows).
In this, Willie is escaping from his rather over-bearing mother. Instead of becoming an art student lodging with a Mother Hen, he plans to disappear, find a place to live, and a job, then reappear and give his mother no choice but to accept the new him.
Unfortunately, Alf's plan for William to play the role of Corpse of a Fugitive means William has to stay hidden - at least until he figures out who's moved into his room with the Mother Hen and is claiming to be William Banks, innocent art student.
