BBC article.

Una Stubbs has died. :o( The BBC article includes some pictures from various stages of her long career. The last picture was an unexpected extra tug at the heartstrings.

Godspeed, lady.

Two TV series: Garrison's Gorillas and Sherlock.

Garrison's Gorillas
I don't post a lot about Garrison's Gorillas but it's been a favourite of mine for 30 years now. It was made and shown in 1967/8, and lasted for 1 season. It was shown again in the UK in 1989 (which is when I first saw it).

It's set during World War II and is about an Intelligence unit comprised of an American Lt. and 4 convicts who are working for the US Army in order to earn a parole. The scripts are a bit hit and miss, with very improbable scenarios but there's quite a bit of humour included.

For me, the real attraction in Garrison's Gorillas is the characters and the friendships between the characters that develop over the episodes. They go from being suspicious of each other and their leader to close friends who'll risk their lives for each other.

Sherlock
Do I need to explain Sherlock? I think most people are aware of the series.

I really really enjoy the series, the first episode especially. I love the little details Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss included from the books (like the neighbour being Mrs. Turner), as well as the fun way they modernised everything.

I love all the main characters and the interactions between the characters. I love that they all acknowledge Sherlock is incredibly socially inept (he's a git) but they love him anyway.

I've just watched it.

Wow.

I don't think it's all sunk in yet. I enjoyed it, just...wow.

I've been meaning to make these icons for a while now...since The Abominable Bride aired, actually.

Well, here they are at last.

No hotlinking, please. If you take any icons to use, please credit me in your user pics.

What do you think? Does it work or is the pic too small?

Maybe I should use a thinner frame.

There's now a far cheaper version.

One advantage this one has over the £170 version? No removable hands (as they seem utterly creepy to me).

As of yet, there doesn't seem to be a matching John Watson (or Lestrade or Mycroft or Mrs. Hudson), but let's hope there will be!

Wow. I don't know whether it will appeal to everyone but I loved it.

Warning: Spoilers ahoy.

It'll be aired in the US from 19th January. All they said about the UK airdate is that the new series will be shown before it airs in the US. I can't wait. :oD

Btw, did you hear about the official Sherlock and John action figures? *If* there are any left for pre-order, the ordinary limited edition figures cost £340 for the pair. The signature edition ones are sold out and cost £440 for the pair. Urk! At those prices, I'll make do with watching the series on the TV.

I decided to make a Sherlock calendar for next month. As usual, it's under the cut. If it's not big enough there ::eyes LJ:: but you'd like a copy, please let me know and I'll email it over.

There's going to be a remake of the 1985 film about young (as in, still at school) Holmes and Watson. :oD This link has some of the details.

This bit made me laugh:

It is reported that the remake will be aimed at a younger audience than the Warner Brothers Sherlock Holmes franchise that stars Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law in the lead roles.

Really? Oh, okay. ::plans on watching it anyway::

And Benedict Cumberbatch is doing two voiceovers. He's narrating the sequel to The Snowman and also doing a voiceover for a CGI video about volcanoes erupting. I'm sure there are 1001 jokes to be made about that. ::fans self::

It's not that interesting - just various pictures of characters from Sherlock put together, but I hope you like it. The size is 1680 x 1050 as that's the size that fits my monitor. :oD

I know I have a few SGA and Sherlock fans on my flist, so here are two captioned pics I did for the Hallowe'en meme. The pictures themselves aren't Hallowe'en related though.

This was posted on Facebook, but the original (posted by the artist) is on Tumblr. Go take a look.

::rofl::

Oh, and according to an interview I read, they'll be filming series 3 in January. ::eyes calendar:: So long to wait!

[livejournal.com profile] scherwood posted this on her FB, so I hope she doesn't mind that I'm posting it here. It's hysterical, with tons of swearing, as Mycroft explains the versatility of the F word.

The Undershaw Preservation Trust are asking people to sign a petition to help save Undershaw - the home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the place where he wrote many of his Sherlock Holmes stories.

Currently, it's owned by a development firm who plan to turn the building into three terraced houses and build more houses on the site. There's a judicial review planned for the 23rd of May, which will decide if the firm will be allowed to go ahead.

If you're interested in expressing support for the Trust and their plans to save Undershaw by signing the petition, it's here.

...I just ordered some more cardmaking supplies, including this item. No prizes for who it reminds me of.

I'm now trying to resist the urge to buy violin brads and other Sherlock-related items. ::wonders if you can get magnifying glass brads:: :oD

According to [livejournal.com profile] fandom_secrets, Joan Watson will not be a veteran, and she lost her medical licence due to a patient dying on the table.

Um. Okaaay.

Still human though, right? ::waits for announcement of Alien!Joan::
