Day 20: Butterflies.

It's weird really. Wihout wings, they'd be creepy crawly insects. Put fairy wings on them, and they're graceful, lovely flutterbies who dance in the summer breeze.

Day 18: A good night's sleep.

When I sleep really well and don't wake up until after 6am. Instead of hours and hours of boring night lying in front of me, the night's almost over.

I didn't do that last night. I struggled to sleep at all last night. :o(

Two TV series: Garrison's Gorillas and Sherlock.

Garrison's Gorillas
I don't post a lot about Garrison's Gorillas but it's been a favourite of mine for 30 years now. It was made and shown in 1967/8, and lasted for 1 season. It was shown again in the UK in 1989 (which is when I first saw it).

It's set during World War II and is about an Intelligence unit comprised of an American Lt. and 4 convicts who are working for the US Army in order to earn a parole. The scripts are a bit hit and miss, with very improbable scenarios but there's quite a bit of humour included.

For me, the real attraction in Garrison's Gorillas is the characters and the friendships between the characters that develop over the episodes. They go from being suspicious of each other and their leader to close friends who'll risk their lives for each other.

Sherlock
Do I need to explain Sherlock? I think most people are aware of the series.

I really really enjoy the series, the first episode especially. I love the little details Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss included from the books (like the neighbour being Mrs. Turner), as well as the fun way they modernised everything.

I love all the main characters and the interactions between the characters. I love that they all acknowledge Sherlock is incredibly socially inept (he's a git) but they love him anyway.

Day 15: Silent clocks.

Also known as tickless clocks, which makes it sound like someone took the tick out as opposed to the clock never having a tick in the first place.

I like knowing the time but I hate hearing clocks tick. I especially dislike hearing clocks tick when I'm trying to sleep. I also especially dislike hearing a number of clocks tick at the same time.

So it was an absolute pleasure to discover you can buy traditional looking clocks that are completely silent.

Oddly enough, my Grandad felt the same way about clocks. He couldn't abide hearing a clock tick when he was trying to sleep either.

Day 14: My favourite gesture of love is holding hands.

It's such a small thing but it makes me melt inside.

Day 13: History

I love history! I love reading about people's lives in different times. How they survived, what kinds of jobs they could have, the food they ate, the clothes they wore. It's absolutely fascinating.

My favourite time periods are Tudor times, the Regency, Victorian times, and 1910s-1940s.

Day 12: Magic tricks!

Of course, they're slight of hand and not magic at all, but here's a video of Matt Edwards and he's hilariously funny, IMO. The video shows his first performance from Britain's Got Talent.

Day 11: Georgette Heyer's books.

I'd say 'historical romance' but I've never found any historical romances that compare to GH at her best. She was amazing.

Her characters are real, flawed human beings who you can't help but love. If you haven't read any, but you like historical romance, give them a go. I recommend The Talisman Ring or The Toll-Gate for adventure.

10. The Golden Age of detective fiction.

This would be classic murder mystery novels mainly from the 1920s-30s. Famous authors include Agatha Christie, Dorothy L. Sayers, and Margery Allingham.

There's a certain elegant style to the books. The world they inhabit is full of grand houses and servants, cocktails, fast cars, young men with slicked back hair, and young women in short dresses.

There is a drawback though: The language is of its time. Anti-semitism and racial slurs abound. The books, plots, and writing are excellent, but it's a heck of an eye opener to read them.

Day 9: Video games

I love playing video games! My first -

Daisy interrupted this post to let me know there are - apparently - monsters down the side of the armchair cushion. I tried to help but that (again, apparently) caused the monsters to jump on my hand. Daisy chased them (and me) off and went back to routing them out from the side of the cushion. Now she's finished, Daisy's eaten some biscuits and gone outside to play in the wind.

Where was I? Oh yeah. My first experience of video games was the ubiquitous Space Invaders game followed by Pac-Man played on those huge machines. And I was absolutely terrible at them.

Then, some time later, I tried Sonic on a friend's Sega Master System, followed by Alex Kidd, and I was hooked. Then, I tried the Sega Mega Drive. It's still my favourite game system. I play video games on my pc and my Kindle but they don't compare to the sheer elation and thrill of the Mega Drive games. They were brilliant. Maybe it's nostalgia coupled with a time in my life when I was able-bodied and more in control of everything around me but I've never found anything that matches.

That's not to say I haven't played some excellent games on my pc. The Dark Parable series are excellent story based games while the Jewel Quest match 3 games are fun to puzzle my way through. I've got some puzzle games (like Elven Mists 2) I play over and over. I really do enjoy video games.

Day 8: Iced coffee.

Especially a mocha. OMG, they're so good. Mmm...

Day 8: Tracing my family tree.

It's puzzling, confusing, frustratng, and addictive. The sense of achievement when you finally find a relative's birthdate or figure out another maiden name is immense.

I find myself getting very fond of my relatives and talking to them through the computer. It also extra nice that I've managed to copy a number of relatives' pictures. When my mum's parents moved back from Germany* the container which had all their photos in was dropped into the sea, so we don't have many pictures from before the early 60s.

*My Grandad worked as a civilian in the RAF after the war and he was posted to Germany. His wife and kids went with him. My mum said it was amazing. They had an indoor toilet at home.

Umm... hmmm. Well. I happen to have one of these on my desk so I might as well confess.

One freaking Cadbury's Caramel egg. One! You need a lot more than that.

Cadbury's Caramel Egg. Um, eggs. It's a chocolate egg filled with soft, gooey caramel. And they are so, so good. They appear in the shops in boxes of 3 or 5 - or you can buy one by itself but how long will that last you? Seriously, a minute? Two? Then no more for a year? What kind of self-denial weirdo are you?

Anyway, from January to Easter I buy boxes of 5 and make them last as long as possible.

One. One egg. No one could do that.

Day 4: My Kindle Fire.

I spend up to 12 hours a night trapped in bed. When I can't sleep, my Kindle Fire and mobile phone are the only things I have to keep me occupied when I can't sleep.

My Kindle Fire lets me surf the internet, read books, watch TV, watch YouTube, and play games. I'm really glad I have one because I can be awake for easily 6 hours a night and that's a long time with nothing to do.

Day 3 is: Amazon Video.

It's my main streaming service and I really enjoy it. It allows me to watch a huge number of TV shows and films without having to struggle with changing DVDs. Because I'm a Prime customer, I get access to whatever films and shows are available to watch for free. I watched Star Trek: Insurrection last night. I haven't seen it in years and I'd forgotten most of it.

I've bought a large number of films and shows on Amazon Video, and they're always in my 'library' so I can watch them again.

Basically, it's a huge source of entertainment for me and I'm glad I have the ability to access it.

It's simple: Let's brighten up February by posting about Stuff We Love!

Day 1: Daisy!

Though she's definitely not stuff, I love her. She's a demanding little diva, who thinks nothing of stropping her claws on my wheels in order to get me to go to the armchair and give her some love and attention.

I may sometimes refer to her as my moneypit kitty, but I'm glad she's here, even if my bank account objects.
