Stolen without remorse from

List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favourite opening line.
1. That damned wrecking ball is still going by the time they get to the third floor and all Bodie can do is run faster and jump harder, and hope he and Doyle don't get themselves killed trying to save the kidnapped daughter of a millionaire.
The Professionals, gen: Beating the Odds
2. "Oh no, I'll go with you tonight, George," Uncle Teddy said, as Cissy strolled down the stairs to the hall.
You Rang M'Lord?, gen: About Turn
3. "'Cause he's my dad."
You Rang M'Lord?, gen: Beg, Borrow, or Save
4. Bilbo the Wise, they called him.
The Hobbit, slash: The Fairytale of Bilbo Baggins
5. Lionel knew it was wrong, even as he was pulling out a pocket handkerchief and using it to keep his fingerprints off the weapon.
Person of Interest, gen: For a Friend
6. "You have to go without me," Harold tells her.
Person of Interest, gen: Trust
7. "Am I hit?"
Person of Interest, gen: Safety Measures
8. Daniel could barely keep on his feet for those last stumbling steps to the Stargate.
Stargate SG-1, gen: Downgrades
9. When she looks back on her childhood, Dís finds it hard to see herself in the spoiled, carefree creature she was then.
The Hobbit, slash: Family
10. Bilbo looked around his cosy smial.
The Hobbit, slash: From Hobbiton With Love
11. Thomas wished, for just one moment, that his references were genuine and he really had been in service for a number of years.
Upstairs Downstairs, het: Deliverance
12. Aziraphale ignored the first knock on his door, and the second, for it wasn't unheard of for book-lovers to attempt to buy books out of hours, especially during these grim times.
Good Omens, gen: Echoes of Mercy, Whispers of Love
13. Emily doesn't know how to explain it to the others.
Upstairs Downstairs, het: Grey Skies
14. Warlock sighed and stretched as the last wisps of sleep faded away.
Good Omens, gen: It's a Beautiful Day
15. Warlock blinked and shrugged at the rain running down the dormitory window.
Good Omens, slash: Blurred Vision
16. "What are you doing?" Crowley demanded.
Good Omens, slash: It's a Kind of Magic
17. A scribe isn't just what he does but what he is.
The Hobbit, gen: Ori Writes
18. Dear Thorin, Well, as you can see, I am home in the Iron Hills once more.
The Hobbit, slash: Dear Thorin
19. Rodney doesn't even feel a twinge of guilt about swapping his security card for Bill's.
Stargate Atlantis, gen: Crossing the Rubicon
20. "So," Bard said, his lean face filled with curiosity as he took a seat, "one of you has won the heart of an Elf maid."
The Hobbit, slash: Eye of the Beholder
Pattern-wise, I don't think I have one. It's normally the opening line I think of first that sets me off with the urge to write the story. Other than that, I can't think of any pattern I have. I'm a bit displeased to note stories 14 and 15 start in almost exactly the same way.
My favourite opening line is number 4. "Bilbo the Wise, they called him.", from The Fairytale of Bilbo Baggins. I just like how fairytale it feels.
