New Amazon scam
Jun. 10th, 2021 09:56 amI've just had a robo-phonecall, supposedly from Amazon. They've just had a suspicious order (order number AM-##### <--- Amazon orders don't begin with AM), on a card I supposedly used recently, for over £1,000. Press 1 if I made this order or press 2 to speak to the cancellations department.
Faaaaaaake!
Faaaaaaake!
Fortunately, a lovely man from "bt openreach" rang me. I cried out in dismay, "Oh no! My internet has been breached! What shall I do?" and hung up.
Instead of recognising that as, "I know you're a scammer so piss off," he rang back!
This time, I put on a fake voice, said I was 97, and I didn't have the internet but my grandson did and he used it to watch porn. After that I kept talking about porn: "girls on girls, boys on boys, and lots of girls on boys!"
I also asked him if he made porn and he said yes.
Courtney (my carer) was almost crying with laughter. He must have been able to hear her and surely he had to realise I was taking the mickey, and yet he kept on trying.
Finally, I cried out my grandson was coming (er...) and said, "Hang up, hang up!" and Courtney hung up for me.

The scammers are at it again.

That's a new one on me!
May. 10th, 2019 02:21 pmI just had an automated phonecall from BT. It said they'd been trying to contact me, my IP address had been compromised, and my internet connection would be shut off in 24 hours. Press 1 to speak to a technician.
I did nothing and the call was disconnected.
I googled and it's a scam. The next step would have been to let them access my pc.

Microsoft phone scam
Apr. 7th, 2012 07:01 pmI was talking to a friend of mine yesterday, and she started complaining about a series of phonecalls she's getting from a firm in India. They claim to be working with (maybe for) Microsoft and try to talk people into logging onto a website so they can take control of your computer. I suspect probably to install a keylogger or to get passwords. Fortunately for my friend, she became suspicious and unplugged her PC, at which point the person on the phone started swearing at her.
She contacted BT who said they've had a ton of complaints about this firm, but, as they're based outside the country, BT can't do anything. At this point, the firm in question is phoning my friend almost daily. As she said, they've got to know by now that she won't listen to them, but I guess hope springs eternal.
So if you get a phonecall from people claiming to be with Microsoft, ignore them. This might only apply to the UK, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're ringing other countries too.
