Instagram has updated their privacy policy. According to the article, users have to delete their accounts by 16th January in order to stop Instagram from having the right to sell their photos to advertisers without notification. It also means they can share their users' info with Facebook and 3rd party advertisers.

Their wording: "To help us deliver interesting paid or sponsored content or promotions, you agree that a business may pay us to display your username, likeness, photos, in connection with paid or sponsored content or promotions, without any compensation to you."

I can't imagine Instagram users are going to be happy over that. Instagram is owned by Facebook. Is Facebook planning on doing the same thing?

That's not going to go down too well. I deleted my Instagram account as soon as they sold out to Facebook - I'm so glad I did!

Sounds awful! If facebook go the same way, I'm deleting all photos and changing my profile pic - probably to a cheetah! Plus remove anything personal (not that I make personal posts much, and haven't given them details re: schooling etc). I'd hate to delete it as there are people on facebook I don't keep in touch with any other way... but I'd consider it!

Thankfully never had an Instagram account.

I can't imagine the majority of people will be happy about it. I should think most people will delete their accounts and go elsewhere!

I don't blame you. Like you, I've kept my personal details off Facebook - they've just got my name and birthdate. No school, no work. No pics of me either. Where do they get off thinking it's acceptable to use people's personal photos for gain?
