I finally watched The Hobbit
May. 4th, 2013 01:35 pmI got the DVD a few weeks ago and finally watched it yesterday. I loved it - which is no surprise, as I loved the LotR movie trilogy.
Poor Bilbo! I loved his dismay at the terms of his contract (they won't cover his funeral and he might get incinerated) and Bofur's description of the dragon ("think furnace with wings"). I'm also amazed I picked the right Dwarf name there as it's hard to keep track of who's who.
Bilbo's delaying of the trolls had me laughing out loud - especially when some of the Dwarves started agreeing that yes, they did have worms ("I've got worms as big as my arm!"). However, giant spiders again?! No one warned me about them! I didn't remember them from the book either. Urk!
I loved Thorin's gradual warming up to Bilbo - especially getting angry at him every time he was in danger...including when he saved Thorin's life. Ungrateful git. :oD
Talking of danger: Gollum! OMG. When he was finishing off the unnamed Orc and Bilbo's sword paled back to silver, I actually felt sorry for the Orc, despite him having tried to kill off Bilbo.
I practically jumped for joy every time we got another character who'd appeared in the trilogy. Elrond! And Galadriel! Oh, and Saruman who's not quite a bad guy (yet). It's a good thing I didn't see it in the cinema; I probably would have been thrown out for over-excitement.
I'm really glad it didn't end on too much of a cliff-hanger. I'm really looking forward to seeing the next one though.
