4 good things that happened in 2016

Yep, the year sucked but 4 good things happened.

Don't want to click? To sum up:

Peace in Colombia - after 50 years. (If you read one bit of that article, make it that one.)

Gene editing - foods and humans.

Malaria in Sri Lanka - has been eradicated.

Solar plane circumnavigation - Early one Monday morning, Solar Impulse 2 took off from Abu Dhabi airport on the start of a 35,000 km journey round the world; a journey powered by nothing but the sun.

Peace is always good. Long may it last. Bit dubious about the eradication of malaria though, since mosquitoes are hardly going to respect national boundaries! Still, it's a fine start. A good victory for solar power, too.

Yeah, I'm not sure how they'll keep Sri Lanka malaria free. Or maybe it's far enough from India that their mosquitoes don't mix?
