Talking meme: Answer 3. Music

sallymn asked me: Talk to me about music - what do you like, what makes you cringe?
Well, that's a broad subject...
I could probably find something in most genres that would appeal to me. Probably. If nothing else, find something that appeals to my sense of fun. I find it difficult to enjoy hard jazz though as too much discord with no resolution throws me off. I think that's the only genre I've actually tried to listen to that I couldn't take to at all.
I'm not keen on atonal music either:
Apart from Gregorian chants. I'll make an exception for them.
I love classical music, from sweet melodies like Saint-Saens' The Swan from Carnival of the Animals:
to wild, sweeping music like the main theme from Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries:
.
Then there's rock 'n' roll, which I love for the fun bounciness of it, like Chantilly Lace:
I tend to think of that as Daisy's theme tune: with a wiggle when she walks and a giggle as she talks... Ain't nuthin' in the world like a big eyed girl...
I love romantic music, like Johnny Reid's Dance With Me which I've posted before:
Then there's music which makes me cry (Bread's Aubrey):
I also have a great fondness for songs with a lot of piano (Billy Joel's Always a Woman):
Okay, I'm done.

Date: 2017-02-19 03:58 pm (UTC)My main thing that I'm not keen on is rap, though again, it can depend on the song to some extent. Heavy metal also tends to be a no for me, but there always seems to be some exceptions!!
I have a love of the golden oldies, thanks to my parents' record collection!! I used to be into the really angsty songs, like 'Billy Don't be a Hero', but now I'm not so keen on them! A good happy song I enjoyed was 'Splish, splash, I was takin' a bath' by Bobby Darin, and of course 'Rubber Ball' by The Avons (in the UK, someone else released it in the US) - oh, and 'Seven Little Girls' (the one where they're sitting in the back seat with Fred - lucky Fred)!! :D
Love 'She is always a woman to me', but then I like a lot of Billy Joel's songs! :D
