The nerve reflex check. They literally stick long pins in you and send small volts of electric along the nerve to see how well the nerve reacts.

Hudson & Halls! I adored them as a kid. Although, come to think of it, they weren't actually chefs - they just liked cooking. They were from New Zealand originally, but moved to the UK and had a BBC1 show in the '80s. They were a gay couple, but that was a secret, supposedly, given the times (not a very good secret - it was blatantly obvious!) Hudson was tall, thin, and marvellously sharp and dry, and Halls was very round and merry, and they sniped and flirted over dishes that I don't think would ever make it onto a cookery show today. Great fun!
