Today's movie is The Greatest Showman.

From Amazon: Hugh Jackman leads an all-star cast in this bold and original musical filled with infectious showstopping performances that will bring you to your feet time and time again. Inspired by the story of P.T. Barnum (Jackman) and celebrating the birth of show business, the film follows the visionary who rose from nothing to create a mesmerising spectacle. This inspirational film also stars Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson and Zendaya.

I enjoyed this film, I really did. It's entertaining and rather sweet. I love the characters and the songs, and how the circus folks became a family.

My main issue is that there's nowhere near enough emphasis on the words "inspired by the story of P.T. Barnum". IMO (and maybe I'm wrong), the movie blurb and press implies it's 'sort of' a biopic of P.T. Barnum, with a few tweaks here and there for artistic licence.

A few tweaks is an understatement. Philip Carlyle's character (Zac Ephron) is a complete invention, Jenny Lind (Rebecca Ferguson) never tried to sabotage Barnum's marriage, Lettie Lutz (Keala Settle) was 2 actual characters combined, Tom Thumb's (Sam Humphrey) background was changed... The list goes on and on and on.

But, having said all that, the film is charming and entertaining, and I like it despite everything.

I'm pretty sure that Barnum didn't keep bursting into song, too. :D

It's a fun film. Got my mother to watch it the other day, and she really enjoyed it, though a lot of the music isn't really her thing. The central theme of inclusivity is such a nice one.

(And I'm glad they inserted the Ephron character, as his routine with Barnum in the bar is one of my favourite bits!)

It is, yes. Very well cast. I hadn't heard of Zendaya before, but she turned out to be very good (and has been wonderful in the recent Spiderman films too). And of course Keara Settle!
