[livejournal.com profile] starwatcher307 posted about this on Yahoo groups (and probably her LJ though I haven't read my friends' page yet) so I'm reposting what she said to spread the word.

Apologies for the OT post, but I think this news is important; pass it on to all the animal-owners you know.

A live journal user named "deannie" has a post up. Several brands of canned (and wet-in-pouch) pet food have caused kidney failure in dogs and cats; the companies are recalling millions of cans. http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/03/17/petfood.recall.ap/index.html (News Link from CNN)

RECALLED DOG FOODS

America's Choice; Preferred Pets; Authority; Award; Best Choice; Big Bet; Big Red; Bloom; Bruiser; Cadillac; Companion; Demoulas Market Basket; Fine Feline Cat; Shep Dog; Food Lion; Giant Companion; Great Choice; Hannaford; Hill Country Fare; Hy-Vee; Key Food; Laura Lynn; Loving Meals; Main Choice; Mixables; Nutriplan; Nutro Max; Nutro Natural Choice; Nutro; Ol'Roy; Paws; Pet Essentials; Pet Pride; President's Choice; Price Chopper; Priority; Publix; Roche Bros; Save-A-Lot; Schnucks; Springsfield Pride; Sprout; Stater Bros; Total Pet; My True Friend; Western Family; White Rose; Winn Dixie and Your Pet.

Although not listed, the recall also includes Iam's and Eukanuba.

There are also a number of Canadian brands affected; check out the links. But, for now, this seems limited to North America.

Check out Deannie's post for more information; she will be updating as they learn more information.

She has multiple links of what to look out for, what to do if you suspect a problem, etc. I hope none of you use the suspect brands, but forewarned is forearmed.

You're welcome. I really hope they can restrict the amount of pets affected - though it's way to late for a lot of them. :o(

thanks for this arnie. since i'm not getting most of my list mail, I 'm not sure i would have seen it. I don't feed my cat wet/moist but I know people who do feed it to their pets.

I'm glad none of yours will be affected. ::hugs:: I know I'd be panicking like crazy if it were in the UK. :o(
