Ages ago, I used to have a Sega Megadrive system, and one of my favourite games was a strategy/platform game called "The Lost Vikings". Three Vikings, Erik, Baelog and Olaf are kidnapped and wake up on a spaceship owned by Tomator, the leader of the Croutonians, who travels around kidnapping people and animals for his zoo. Naturally, they set out to escape.

The three characters have different abilities - Erik jumps and can smash walls with his head; Baelog has a sword or a bow and arrow to defend them with; Olaf has a shield for them to hide behind. To finish a level, you have to get all three characters to the exit. Sometimes the way through is easy for one character, but you have to find other ways through for the others.

They also talk to each other at the end of every level. One end conversation was:

"Do you have the feeling someone's watching us?"

"Yeah, like someone's controlling our every move."

"You two are just paranoid."

"All right, who's that over there then?"

"You're right! Let's get out of here!"
:oD

I knew there was a PC version of Lost Vikings2 which is vastly different to the original, and it suddenly occurred to me to go search for the first version. It's available as a free download from various places, so I checked a few sites out (to avoid trojans or malware). So, if anyone's interested, you can get it from here.

The controls are different for the PC (naturally) but nowhere seemed to have a list of accurate controls to use. I finally figured it out through trial and error, so here they are:

ESCAPE = changes the game to full screen (or resizes it back down). Handy if you need to see it more clearly.

ARROW KEYS = move the character left or right.

ENTER = the 'start' button. This pauses the game, and (with other keys) does various functions.

SPACEBAR = the 'A' button. Use this for the main action (Erik jumps, Baleog uses his sword, Olaf raises or lowers his shield).

CTRL = the 'B' button. Use this for the second action (press while Erik runs for him to headbutt a wall, Baleog uses his bow and arrow, Olaf raises or lowers his shield).

LEFT SHIFT = the 'C' button. Presses switches/levers. Also see below.

~~~
To change character, hit 'ENTER' and the left or right arrow key.
While talking to other characters, hit the SPACEBAR to get to the next bit of dialogue.
To give a special item (food or a bomb), press ENTER, SPACE (to highlight the item), then left or right arrow key to pass the item on.
To use an item, press ENTER then LEFT SHIFT. If you're using a bomb, walk away quickly.
~~~

ITEMS

FOOD = restores health points to a Viking. Fruit restores one point, a large steak restores two.

BOMB = use to blow up computers or walls Erik can't destroy.

OMEGA = shaped like a gold X, this destroys all the enemies on the screen.

~~~
There's a detailed walkthrough here, with hints and tips on how to survive.
I don't know that game but I do understand the excitement of finding a long lost game, mine was Head Over Heels a game I had on my old Amstrad.
Hope you have lots of fun with it.
It's a fun game to play. It's rather awkward playing it using the keyboard, so I suspect some of the later levels (where you have to quickly swap between characters) may be beyond me, but it's fun to replay it.
I don't know Head Over Heels at all. Did you find that online?
Yes, someone has made a PC version of it. I found it by accident looking up the game when David and I were talking about it one day.
Though I'm still really rubbish at playing it!
