Eye colour

This is me just being curious. So, if you don't mind, I'd like to know what colour your eyes are.

Just idle curiosity, actually. So far as I know, brown is the most common eye colour overall, but I've been told that blue is the most common for caucasions. I've also heard hazel eyes referred to as 'oddly coloured', which surprised me as I don't think hazel eyes are odd at all. I'm possibly biased because I have hazel eyes, though they're not my favourite eye colour.

So...just idle curiosity.

So I didn't know which colour I should choose... =P

Scut Farkus from A Christmas Story has yellow eyes. "Scut Farkus staring out at us with his yellow eyes. He had yellow eyes! So, help me, God! Yellow eyes!"

But he's the only person I've ever heard of who has yellow eyes. If he's fictional does it not count?

Wouldn't you be counted as having hazel eyes? I know brown/green eyes count as hazel. Hmmm...

I call my eyes 'blue' - they are in the middle, anyway - but there's kind of gold flecks around the pupil, and the outer rim of the iris is pretty much grey. The color is very changeable, from grey-blue to very blue-blue, depending on the color of my shirt.

PS I'm the only blue-eyes in a family (7 people) of brown-eyes. One of my nieces has eyes the same as mine; she's the only blue in a family of five. It's interesting how those genes express themselves.

Wow! Your eyes are like mine (and my daughter's) blue with gold flecks and grey outer rim. But they change from grey-blue to green depending on what I'm wearing (or in one case a room with a mustard carpet.)

I can't believe I actually had to think about this for a second before I remembered! Mine are so dark brown, they're almost black.

It's interesting you bring this up, because I was thinking the other day how unusual it is that on NCIS, you have MH with blue eyes, CdP with brown but MW, SM and PP all have hazel eyes.

Looking at the results, I'm starting to wonder if there is some fannish tendency to have eye colour outside of the statistical norm, or if it's merely a tendency of the fans on Arnie's flist. *g* (And speaking of those, the spouse and I - brown and hazel-eyed - managed to produce two blue-eyed children out of three.) I love geeking out over these sorts of genetic anomaly things.

I don't know about a fannish tendency but people with blue eyes means they have a common ancestor. I know this is old news but it's still cool.

They referred to that 1st blue eyed person as a 'mutation'. Probably born that way....and very popular to cause so many descendants.

It's fascinating, isn't it? Eyes are so important. I am surprised at the amount of green-eyed people who voted. I thought they'd be rarer than that.

All of my Mum's family have blue, grey or blue/grey eyes. Apparently my father had brown though, which is probably why I ended up with hazel.

I remember reading an article about how the genes for all eye colours are present, you just need certain combinations to end up with one or another. Which explains your blue-eyed babies. :oD
