Or anyone who might want to give one of her books a whirl.

ManyBooks has got her first novel, The Black Moth, available as a free download! Click here to go to her page. I tried to get it as a PDF, but it failed to download, so I got it as an RTF and it's fine.

If you haven't read it before, enjoy!

Well, it was her first book. Maybe they'll get more. ::is hopeful::

Cool beans! I love Georgette Heyer. Devil's Cub was an alltime fave :)

I love Devil's Cub! Actually, I love most of GH's books. The Black Moth isn't a favourite but it's still GH, so I'm pleased. :oD

It sounds cool, although a definite caveat is that The Black Moth was her first book, and written in her teens.

Yeah, it's not her best book, but I still enjoyed it. :oD

Thank you for the info. Read it a loooong time ago in my teens and enjoyed it. I really liked the villain and thought the hero was boring so I shipped the villain and the heroine (in my version, she turned the tables and thoroughly vanquished the Devil, leading to improbable HEA). It was awesome! I've downloaded the book to see if I still see the same potential as a jaded middle-aged woman. *g*

Actually, GH used The Black Moth as the background for These Old Shades. Andover (The Black Moth's villain) becomes Avon (These Old Shades' hero - a very flawed hero). TOS is, IMO, one of her best books. Have you read it?

I have. It has my favorite romance trope: girl disguised as boy! *g* Proto-slash. The Masqueraders is my favorite Heyer with that trope... I think there are three of them.

I prefer the next gen sequel, Devil's Cub, to These Old Shades. There's something about Mary Challoner that warms my heart. She's just so darn sensible and disconcerting to the dashing/annoying bad boy hero.

I would have a hard time picking a favorite Heyer book.

There's The Corinthian. Pen spends the whole book dressed as a boy, though Richard isn't fooled for an instant.

I love Mary! As you said, she's so sensible! Poor Dominic. I love it when she's explaining to Avon how it all happened.

I would have a hard time picking a favorite Heyer book.

LOL! Me too. I usually say "that's one of my favourites". What I don't say is that most of them qualify as a favourite book.

I was fond of "Venetia" myself. And Mab's take-offs on the style for TS AU stories is incredible :)

Oddly enough, Venetia wasn't one of my favourites. It's a good book (it is GH, after all!) but...I don't know. Weird what appeals to some and not to others, isn't it?
