What the...
Mar. 14th, 2011 10:51 pmI'm furious, honestly, furious. On two counts.
To explain, there's a person who's posted a video on YouTube, explaining how God sent the earthquake and tsunami to convince all those non-believers in Japan that, hey, he exists! Here's the video.
So, fury.
Reason one is obvious, and I think my head would explode if I had to explain why I'm furious at this little dipshit for claiming there's a theological reason for all those people dying in Japan.
Reason two (and it's minor in comparison to reason one, but it just adds to the aggravation), she gives Christians a bad name. I'm pretty damn sure the majority of Christians aren't high fiving each other in congratulations and jubilation at the heartbreaking disaster in Japan.

Date: 2011-03-14 11:04 pm (UTC)A human would never pray/wish for anything like this (earthquake/whatever) to happen to anyone. *growl*
*furious*

Date: 2011-03-14 11:40 pm (UTC)Good grief. I'm not even going to look - it makes me mad to even think about it, without actually seeing it. There are some very sad, sick people in this world.

Date: 2011-03-16 09:13 pm (UTC)Good for you. I'll defend the right to free speech with my last breath, but something like that is offensive for the sake of being offensive, and we can all do without that right now.
Gosh, I don't often get ranty *hg*

Date: 2011-03-15 12:57 am (UTC)Just really - fuck her and anyone who thinks that way. Sorry - I'm not that crude but people like her and the Westboro preachers make me see red. Nobody sane is celebrating the disaster in Japan.

Me too! I hate it when people claim they're Christians then rejoice in another's misfortune. There's nothing Christian about that.

Date: 2011-03-15 02:06 am (UTC)You're right that such 'Christians' give the rest a bad name, to the extent where I feel uncomfortable identifying myself as Christian. I believe in God and Christ, and I believe we're here to learn and to leave the place before than we found it, whether that means helping people or being an environmentalist or just working hard. Mostly I have drifted so far as to not belong to any church and to call myself 'spiritual' versus 'religious'.
I think Jesus must weep over how twisted some of his messages of love and compassion and non judgment of others have gotten twisted by so-called believers.

The video's been taken down by YouTube now. At least that's something.

Date: 2011-03-15 11:29 am (UTC)Unfortunately, there are some Christians who seem to think we're still living in Old Testament times, when we're not. The New Testament and what Jesus did for us has changed things. I do not believe that God sends judgement on nations or cities. Sure, in the Old Testament there are instances of this (though even then, not using natural causes) - but not in the New Testament! The old has passed away! And I, for one, am grateful for that!
As for being gleeful over this? That's terrible and totally missing everything in the Bible about how much God loves every single person on this planet. I can only pray that she learns the truth and realises how wrong she is - and that people aren't put off by people like her, because the majority of Christians aren't like this. Or at least, that's my experience - that people like her are an unfortunate minority.
