Possibly not that handy but I mentioned one the other day to someone and it was new to them. So...

If you're on a webpage with moving gifs or icons that annoy you, hit the escape key on your keyboard and that'll stop them. It doesn't work on flash or Java though.

If a webpage has tiny writing ::suspects she's getting old:: press ctrl and + to make it bigger. Ctrl and - makes it smaller.

And if you can't open a bottle or jar, wrap an elastic band around the lid. It gives you a far better grip to get the thing open.

If you're suffering from muscle cramps, try taking magnesium. (Check to make sure it's okay with any other meds you're taking.) That'll help cut down on the cramps you get.

Any other handy tips people swear by?

Also, if you can't open a bottle or jar with a metal lid, run it under hot water before trying again.

LOL - I was going to say always warm the oil before you grab the cabana boy... but that's so obvious *g*

Taking turmeric for general seasonal aches and pains is a new one to me - it came up while we were nattering in yoga a couple of months ago. Several people said they'd found they were less achy a day or so after a good curry, and that they reckoned it was the turmeric that helps. I'm still not certain, but nothing to lose I've started throwing more turmeric into my soups and so on, and taking turmeric pills when I remember to... anything that stops me creaking!

Heh...no, I didn't forget about the warmed oil. That screech they make sometimes is just *so* ear-piercing!

Thanks for the tip on tumeric. I hadn't heard that one before.

If you have a problem with trapped wind/bloated stomach, use half a teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda (mixed or washed down with water) and that'll sort it! Cheaper than the branded wind easing products and just as effective!

Also, bicarb is great for many, many things!

In fact, I once read that it was good for dry cleaning cuddly toys - just sprinkle on, rub in and then comb out. This came in useful when I was cat-sitting many years ago and one of the cats came in with grease on her ears - bicarb was the less stressful way of removing the worst of it. Less stressful for both of us, as she hated being handled much, but was happy for you to brush her head and ears!

My Grandad swears by bicarb! I always wondered why - now I know.

Thanks, Leesa!
