Animated gifs, icons, and how to stop them
Feb. 8th, 2013 08:53 pmI really dislike seeing animated gifs or icons on a page while I'm trying to read text. I find them distracting. Normally, I just hit 'escape' and that stops them, but if I'm reading a message board and a frequent poster an animated icon, it's annoying to have to hit 'escape' for every page.
Then a poster on
fandom_secrets posted a way to automatically turn off all gifs/animated icons on Firefox, Opera, and IE! Click the cut if you want to read how.
Firefox:
go to about:config
set image.animation_mode to none
Opera:
press F12
unselect Enable GIF animation
Internet Explorer:
go to Internet Options < Advanced < Multimedia
unselect Play animations in web pages

I also played around on Firefox, and discovered you can load the gif (if you're curious as to what it's about) by right-clicking on it and choosing 'show image info'. Neat, huh?
