Wow. I don't know whether it will appeal to everyone but I loved it.

Warning: Spoilers ahoy.

I think my favourite bits were Molly turning up as the male morgue attendant (Hee!) and Mycroft being the size of a house.

Least favourite bit was finding out Moriarty is dead after all. I thought that would have been better left for the actual series. Having said that, I'll probably love whatever they do in series 4 and hindsight will have me glad they included it in the special.

I adored the flashback scene of Victorian!Stamford introducing Watson to Holmes. I'd wanted to see it anyway, so getting that was a bonus. At first I thought they were going to be redoing A Study in Scarlet (or A Study in Pink) but then they jumped forward to after The Blue Carbuncle, Mrs. Hudson complaining about not being a plot device, and Holmes complaining about barely being in 'the dog one'.

Mary as a client come to give Watson hell was hilarious, as was their maid giving cheek to Watson. I loved that he was going to talk to his wife so she'd talk to the maid. Victorian!Lestrade was brilliant - poor Lestrade having to take Holmes's sarcasm when he needs help. I really liked his retelling of the suicidal bride (and I loved the way they had the sitting room in the street so you could see them watching the bride's suicide and subsequent murder of her husband).

Anderson in the morgue was great, and of course he believed the bride had risen from the dead to commit murder. I loved that they chained the (dead) bride to the morgue table because she was under arrest for having murdered her husband. The male but unfortunately vertically challenged Hooper (Molly in a moustache!) made me laugh. Watson showing he knew what she was and tipping his hat to her was perfect.

The best bit after that was Mycroft - oh, Mycroft. Stop making bets with your brother and stop slowly killing yourself with food! I did like that Mary was working for him though.

Was I mistaken or was Sir Eustace played by Percy from the Blackadder series (Tim McInnerny)? The IMDb doesn't say who played Sir Eustace. *frowns at the IMDb for not having the information*

Watson's nerve going and him running from the bride... Well, I can't blame him for that.

You could really see Mark Gatiss's love of horror in this, especially with the disinterred bride bit (which was completely gross).

Anyway, I loved it. I'll be watching it again before the week is out. Thank goodness for the BBC's iPlayer!

Did anyone else watch it?

ETA: It was Tim McInnerny as Sir Eustace. The IMDb has updated the cast list.

I watched it and loved it too.

Cleverly done and I liked the way they switched back and forth from Victorian times to the modern setting we know and love, while all the time keeping the narrative flowing.

All the performances were spot on and there were nice touches of humour throughout.

Only downside is I want a new series now but unfortunately we have to wait until next year for that. :(

It was a bit odd at first, but once it got going I really enjoyed it!! Especially love how they moved back and forth towards the end, and the 'awake but not really bit' too!

Molly as a fake-male was brilliant!! And I loved the ending scene, with them back in the Victorian age, talking about Sherlock's dreams of the future, lol!! Loved the bit about him being a man out of time - and the pull out from the window! :D

I mostly enjoyed it - there were bits which struck me as odd - but it was a great improvement (for me at least) on the last season, which I didn't enjoy nearly as much as I wanted to.

Wasn't it pretty though?! I loved the way it was put together, loved the humour, loved the back and forth between time lines... it's made me hopeful for the next series \o/

I watched it and I'm not sure how I feel about it at the moment. As always it was cleverly done and I really enjoyed seeing them set in Victorian times. I like how they incorporated the timelines and I chuckled at Mrs Hudson being put out about not having any speaking lines in the books.
