Since when is beef a vegetable?

As some of you may know, I'm a vegetarian. I find it constricting at times as so many non-meat items are non-vegetarian.

So when I saw a vegetarian strawberry mousse on the Wiltshire Farm Foods site, I ordered it to try it out.

Only to discover the actual ingredients listed on the product include beef gelatine. Grrr! Straight into the bin with that!

Is vegetarian gelatine a thing? If so, you could eat products made with it.

Yeah, it is. I know plant gelatine is more expensive though, which is why beef or pork gelatine is so commonplace.

In any case, this was beef gelatine. :o(

Have you told them it's not vegetarian? Because it's possible they haven't realised the error. Not that helps you, but might stop others having to throw it away or accidentally eat beef gelatine. *hugs*

I got really annoyed and left a 1 star review on the product. All reviews have to be approved by admin so they should realise soon. If my review doesn't go up, I'll have to email them.

Um, have they not heard of trade descriptions? Because, no, you can't do that! You shouldn't be footing the bill for their error. Might be worth asking for a refund? Sheesh, why does life have to be so difficult?!

It was only £1 so I'm not bothered about the cost. It had far more to do with my being deprived of dessert!

At least the word 'beef' was on the packet, but it sucks that you couldn't research that BEFORE buying it...

We eat vegetarian twice a week, and sometimes (like if Sis, the Cook of the Household, is sick) it gets difficult.

They list the ingredients on the website! There was no mention of beef gelatine and they marked it vegetarian.

How annoying! I'd have returned it and complained, that way they can amend their records so that nobody has the same problem. I bet you were so disappointed. I always look forward to trying something new.
