Fandom meme answers - B, L, W and X.
Nov. 6th, 2016 11:46 amSpoilers for Stargate: Atlants.
B - A pairing–platonic, romantic or sexual–that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind.
Greg Lestrade and Molly Hooper (from Sherlock). Molly takes off her coat at that Christmas party and Greg practically has to take himself out back and sternly remind himself he's a married man. Of course, his wife is still cheating on him with a PE teacher. *boggles* Ditch the wife, Greg! Maybe Molly would finally find happiness with someone who's not like Sherlock at all.
L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. (Characters you’re neutral about are fair game, as are characters you merely dislike. Characters that you absolutely loathe with the fire of ten thousand suns are exempt, as there is no point in giving yourself an aneurysm over a character that you hate.)
Moriarty (from Sherlock): Well, he's dedicated, isn't he? *side-eyes for infinity*
That's not really nice, is it? Okay. Hmm.
Elizabeth from Stargate: Atlantis. When they found the aged Elizabeth in the stasis tube, it made me realise that, even though she didn't really know most of the people under her command, she was prepared to lay down her life to save them. She couldn't have been sure the stasis tube would keep her alive. When she realised she was still aging despite stasis, she could have tried to leave Atlantis and live out her life, but she didn't. She stayed and died because she believed it was her duty.
You're getting both of these because they're easy.
W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.
Deathfic.
I really don't see the point in reading a fic that kills off a character I love. Like: What? Stop! Leave 'em alone!
X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom.
First meetings! *adores* New impressions, misconceptons... Gimme more!

Date: 2016-11-06 01:26 pm (UTC)Though in B7, when I was reading that fic, deathfic wasn't such an issue. Perhaps because I wanted to read all the fix-it fics I could for the ending, and so long as Vila lived, I could cope with deaths of others. Just.

Date: 2016-11-09 03:44 am (UTC)I hadn't noticed the Greg/Molly vibe, so I shall enjoy rewatching that scene and looking for it!
Moriarty (from Sherlock): Well, he's dedicated, isn't he? *side-eyes for infinity*
MOOHA!!!!
I like your take on Elizabeth. I found her really annoying and a poor leader, but you've pointed out something admirable that I hadn't really processed. That makes her less unlikable for me. :-)
Yeah, when I see a "Deathfic" warning, that's usually my cue to go read something else. Although I have read a few that I liked ... back in the days of zines when there weren't always warnings. Mostly Star Trek, I guess! And I guess ... if I'm reading something set in the future and it's casually mentioned that so-and-so minor character has passed on, it might not bother me so much, but generally, I like all my characters alive and
wellsuffering. *hugs them all*First meetings! *adores* New impressions, misconceptons... Gimme more!
Oh, yes! ♥ It's one of the elements I enjoy so much in your Sherlock-cat story!

Date: 2016-11-10 05:49 pm (UTC)It's just a small thing. She takes off her coat and Greg blinks and quietly says, "Wow!" ♥
I wanted to like Elizabeth more. I didn't dislike her but I was never taken with her character.
And I guess ... if I'm reading something set in the future and it's casually mentioned that so-and-so minor character has passed on, it might not bother me so much
I'd say the same except for Georgette Heyer's An Infamous Army. In case you don't know it, there's a brief appearance from Dominic and Mary, the Duke and Duchess of Avon. Their love story was in Devil's Cub, and Dominic's parents (Justin and Leonie) were from These Old Shades. Which means, in An Infamous Army, Justin and Leonie are dead. I can't be doing with that at all.
"Bah!" as Leonie would say.
