I finished watching this today. It was absorbing and unsettling...and based on true events.

It's a German language film with subtitles. Johann Radmann is a state prosecutor in Germany in 1958. At that time, the Holocaust had been very firmly swept under the rug, to the extent that Germans of his age didn't even know the name Auschwitz.

The Nuremberg Trials were considered to have dealt with *all* the Nazis. As Johann finds out, there were 8,000 Germans who participated in the crimes committed at Auschwitz who took off their uniforms and jackboots and went back to living behind the veneer of very ordinary lives.

Johann is put in charge of the investigation to bring some of them to justice. During the course of his investigation, he has to face just how complicit everyone around him is.

If you're at all interested in the history of WW2, this is a good film, even though it's set 13 years after the war ended.

Thank you - I don't think I've heard of it, and certainly not seen it. It sounds fascinating.
