Have any of you guys seen this? I watched it last night and I howled with laughter.

I really like the original Jumanji film but this one, IMO, is far funnier.

Warning: spoilers.

I like looking at Google's Doodles because I usually learn something new. Today's Google Doodle is in honour of Chiune Sugihara, a Japanese official who tanked his diplomatic career by ignoring the orders from his own government by issuing transit visas to thousands of Jewish people so they could escape the Nazis by travelling via Japan to safety.

~~~
“There was no other way,” said Japanese diplomat Chiune Sugihara, who was stationed in Lithuania shortly before the outbreak of World War II. On this day in 1939, Sugihara began issuing transit visas to thousands of Jewish refugees, defying direct orders from his supervisors to help the refugees escape via Japan.
“I told the Ministry of Foreign Affairs it was a matter of humanity,” he recalled years later. “I did not care if I lost my job.”
Soon after Jewish families began lining up outside his official residence, pleading for documents to allow them safe passage via Japan to the Dutch island of Curacao, he sent three messages to Tokyo requesting permission, all of which was forcefully rejected. “Absolutely not to be issued any traveler not holding firm end visa with guaranteed departure ex Japan,” read the cable from the foreign ministry. “No exceptions.”
After much soul-searching, Sugihara threw caution to the winds, writing thousands of visas night and day until “my fingers were calloused and every joint from my wrist to my shoulder ached.” His wife supported his risky decision, massaging his tired hands each night so he could keep going until the last minutes of his train leaving Lithuania, handing out visas to Jews at the platform.
Upon returning to Japan, Sugihara paid the price for disobeying orders. His promising foreign service career came to an end, and he struggled to support his family. He received little recognition for his sacrifice until one of the people he saved, now an Israeli diplomat, managed to find him in 1968. A tree was planted in his honor at the Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem, and Chiune Sugihara was declared "Righteous Among Nations." Memorials in Lithuania and Yaotsu, Japan pay tribute to Sugihara and his heroic endeavors that saved untold thousands of lives.
I saw the How It Should Have Ended video for Jurassic Park on YouTube ( https://youtu.be/xQrRg3LtjXY ) the other day. I've never seen the actual film before. I've seen clips and know the story but it never really appealed to me. I got curious about how it all started, so I ended up watching the film.
It was more enjoyable than I expected but I'm really posting to share this bit of trivia from the IMBd:
The T. Rex occasionally malfunctioned, due to the rain. Producer Kathleen Kennedy recalls, "The T. Rex went into the heebie-jeebies sometimes. Scared the crap out of us. We'd be, like, eating lunch, and all of a sudden a T. Rex would come alive. At first we didn't know what was happening, and then we realized it was the rain. You'd hear people start screaming."
From thousands of miles away, that sounds hilarious.
Shame on all those who made these people think they didn't deserve to be happy.
I was awake last night in the middle of the night so I started watching YouTube. I was watching a cat rescue video with a very shouty cat when something made me look up.
Daisy was on my bedside table giving me a very disapproving look. I think she's decided I was cheating on her.
I watched The Ho Ho Ho Job today (which played under the title The Morning After Job but, well) and it was just so much fun. Parker loving Christmas, everyone getting gifts at the end, Wil Wheaton reappearing as the Grinch... Just perfect!
Update to this post: https://arnie1967.dreamwidth.org/1005963.html
Remember I spoke to Amazon via online chat and told them 2 of Leverage's season 3 episodes were messed up on Amazon Video? Ep 4, The Scheherazade Job, was actually ep 5, The Double Blind Job so ep 5 was posted twice?
Well, I just checked. Ep 4, The Scheherazade Job, is still ep 5, The Double Blind Job, but ep 5, The Double Blind Job, is now ep 3, The Inside Job. *tilts head*
I'll try to explain it to them again when I feel up to it.
I'm still watching Leverage on Amazon Prime and I'm up to season 3. I watched the first 3 episodes without a problem, then tried to watch ep 4, The Scheherazade Job (Wadata, a West African country, has an honest President, Simeon Moto, about to be term-limited out of office).
To my surprise, I got The Double Blind Job (Nate and the team runs a con against a corrupt CEO of a pharmaceuticals company who is marketing a product which could kill thousands). I watched it anyway as I hadn't seen it before and I thought I'd see The Scheherazade Job when I played ep 5.
No, I got The Double Blind Job ep again. I doublechecked and it definitely played the same ep twice under 2 different titles. I carried on watching the episodes but thought I'd better let Amazon know so they could fix it.
That turned out to be more difficult than I expected. I spoke to one person, then got passed to another. Simon asked me to log out then back in to check if it still happened, then asked if I'd checked the episode descriptions aganst their Wiki page.
Um... It's the same ep playing twice. I pulled up the IMDb page and prepared to go all Hardison on his ass, but he hurriedly handed me over Jency who said she'd get it fixed and thanks for reporting it. That was all I wanted.
My smoke alarm started beeping every 30 seconds to alert me the battery needed changing. Unfortunately for me, it did it tonight at 10pm.
I rang Elaine, my aunt. She came round, took it down...and it wasn't that smoke alarm. I have 2. One is a battery one and the other is wired into the mains. It has a battery in it, in case the power goes off.
The batteries in them frequently fail during the night.
Elaine rang my housing association repair line. They said they'd call the electrician and call her back.
When they rang back, they said the electrician isn't answering, it's not likely he'll come out for a smoke alarm, so I'll probably have to wait until Monday. This is because of cutbacks.
Yeah. Just let that sink in.
Fortunately for me, Denis, Elaine's husband, has a screwdriver, so he took the damn thing down and put it into the utility room where I can't hear it. He shouldn't have had to but he did.
I'm just astounded that leaving anyone to endure relentless beeping for 60 hours is an acceptable solution.
Judith Kerr, the author of the Mog series has died.
I really liked her book When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit. It detailed her and her family's escape from pre-war Germany, into France, then finally to England.
From the article:
On Desert Island Discs in 2004, she told Sue Lawley: "I think of the business of the Holocaust, and the one and a half million children who didn't get out as I got out, in the nick of time -- I think about them almost every day now, because I've had such a happy and fulfilled life and they'd have given anything to have had just a few days of it.
"And I hope I've not wasted any of it: I try to get the good of every bit of it because I know they would have done if they'd had the chance."
Godspeed, lady.
I watched the first ep of Leverage on Amazon Video and it had 2 scenes missing.
After the hangar explodes, Nathan wakes up to find he, Elliot, Hardison, and Parker are in hospital, are handcuffed to their gurneys, and the Feds are on the way to collect them. Nathan keeps his head. A spot of pocket-picking, database hacking, impersonating, and a phonecall later, undercover agent Hardison escorts the other three out and they escape with minutes to spare.
Nope. The hangar explodes, Nathan wakes up to find the other three looking down at him, then they stroll into Hardison's pad and work out how they were conned.
Later on, Dubenich is early for a meeting with Sophie and the Nigerian businessmen. Sophie's on one of the upper floors and trying frantically to get into a lift, and Dubenich is about to search the building's business directory and find out they don't have an office in the building. Nathan smashes several car windows to distract Dubenich, and Sophie and Parker get to abseil several floors down the stairwell to the ground floor. Sophie (who screams her way down) comes tottering into the lobby to meet Dubenich.
There's none of that - Dubenich and Sophie simply get into the lift.
So, the first episode was cut. Whhhhhhhyyyyyy? I'm really not impressed.
Leverage is finally on Amazon video. I checked not so long ago but it wasn't there. Then, tonight, it appeared under the 'also watched' section for The Librarians.
Does anyone know The Librarians, btw? Is it good?
