I just had an automated phonecall from BT. It said they'd been trying to contact me, my IP address had been compromised, and my internet connection would be shut off in 24 hours. Press 1 to speak to a technician.

I did nothing and the call was disconnected.

I googled and it's a scam. The next step would have been to let them access my pc.

They are trying everything now. Trying to get into any account I have, even utilities (electricity, gas, etc). I usually play the crazy lady card. It scares a lot of them. The others, I just act dumb and hang up on them. The automated calls, I just hang up or don't answer. I always google what they say and it always comes up as a scam.

Blimey, that's a new one on you?! It might tour the country by region of course, but in Gloucestershire it's been a pain in the proverbial for at least a year. Like, two or three calls a day at times. It's become a real nuisance, and there seems to be no stopping it. I hope it doesn't become an issue like that for you.

You clearly are sensible enough not to have pressed any buttons this time. Make sure you don't, as some of these things link you to premium rate call lines.
