[personal profile] andeincascade and [personal profile] ringsandcoffee, would you like to take up the challenge?

For 10 days, post the cover of a book you like and challenge someone else to join in.

Today's book is Busman's Honeymoon by Dorothy L. Sayers.

Lord Peter Wimsey has married his Harriet, hooray! They have fooled the press and slipped away to a rather quaint old house called Talboys which Peter has bought for Harriet. The previous owner, Mr. Noakes, promised to have the house ready for them but it seems he's done a bunk to avoid his creditors. Not to worry, as the sale is solid, and Bunter - Lord Peter's manservant - is on hand to organise the house and its contents and ensure his lord and lady get their honeymoon.

Alas, even Bunter can't prevent the police from taking over when Mr. Noakes's dead body is found in the cellar.

This is either my very favourite Dorothy L. Sayers' book or my 2nd favourite Dorothy L. Sayers' book. (The other being Murder Must Advertise.) It's a mix of romance and detective fiction. For anyone who's read the other Peter and Harriet books, it's a pleasure to see them finally married. It's also a very satisfying crime novel in its own right.

True!

Must admit, I always wanted more Bunter, though. One of the good things about Campion was that he was almost more friends with Lugg than master/servant.

Yes, he was great. Brian Glover was brilliant casting in the TV version too.

That's one of the entertaining things about Campion of course - so many expectations subverted. He has all those dodgy friends, and his manservant is so off-the-wall. So many reasons why he'd be a great choice for a telly adaptation...! *sigh*
