This turned out to be far longer than I anticipated (and I haven't finished yet!), so I'll post it in sections. Here, such as it is, is part 1 of Day 2.

Day 2

The day started early, very early for me, when I woke up at 1am to hear someone rummaging around in our room. I peered at [livejournal.com profile] luicat's bed in the dim light and thought she was still in it as the bedclothes were humped up. After a few more scary seconds of listening to the rummaging, I raised my head and looked at the dark figure who seemed to be searching for something. I said, sharply, "Noreen?!"

It was her. The bedclothes were merely bedclothes and [livejournal.com profile] luicat was up and looking for something. It wasn't until the next day that I found out what. [livejournal.com profile] luicat didn't want to tell me but she finally confessed that she'd got up for her earplugs as I was uh...snoring. Loudly.

I hope I can find a roommate if there's ever another UK con. o.O

She also woke up in the morning to the melodious sound of me grinding my teeth. I knew I did that one. ::blushes:: Now I'm wondering if I ground my teeth and snored at the same time. If so, I shall celebrate my ability to multi-task in my sleep! :oD

Once morning came and we were both ready, we headed downstairs to the Atrium, hoping that the food would be marginally better than the food offered the night before. It was, thankfully, though I know that [livejournal.com profile] gillyp didn't like their scrambled eggs. I enjoyed them, and the thick toast was nice too. After that, we retired to the bar to wait for more attendees to stagger in (depending on what they'd been doing the night before), including [livejournal.com profile] dusty_star, another Sentinel fan I'd never met before. :oD Some of the attendees complained about the fire alarm which had gone off on their side of the building three times the night before. I was glad the one on our side hadn't gone off as I find it hard to get back to sleep, but I hid my relief and sympathised with them.

Once it neared 11am, we all headed off towards the Sutton Suite in order to register, receive our con pack and get our con badges. The badges proved to be invaluable as [livejournal.com profile] alibongo used her black marker pen to embellish them. [livejournal.com profile] gillyp was turned into D'Artagnan (although she bore a striking resemblance to Gary Oldman as Sirius in the Harry Potter films - in his saner moments, anyway); [livejournal.com profile] fluterbev became a pirate, as did I (see icon!) while [livejournal.com profile] suemc went through various incarnations and finally ended up as the wolfman. Gerri, one of the organisers and therefore very well behaved, admired our badges and expressed her wish for one...along with her regret that she couldn't allow her badge to be altered. I offered to steal it, ask [livejournal.com profile] alibongo to work her magic on it, then 'find' it and hand it back. Gerri loved the idea, and made it easy for me to steal by handing me the badge. Soon after, she had a Mexican version of herself in her hands. Soon after, Rae expressed her dismay about the state of Gerri's badge, but I suspect it was jealousy that she, as con organiser, couldn't have her own picture embellished too.

[livejournal.com profile] luicat attempted to hold out by saying that she was sensible and was not going to hand over her badge. Finally, [livejournal.com profile] rhianne or [livejournal.com profile] suemc (I think it was one of those - someone please correct me if I'm wrong), pointed out that they'd either steal the badge and do what they wanted or [livejournal.com profile] luicat could hand it over and they'd do something nice with it. Sense prevailed and soon [livejournal.com profile] luicat looked like a very fetching little kitty. :oD

Garett wandered in in the middle of it, looked around, judged our sanity, then wandered out again about half an hour later - doubtless wondering what he'd let himself in for!

Once 1pm arrived, Rae exerted her authority (she's good at that) and made us all leave, stating that we could return later to watch an episode of The Sentinel with Garett on hand (as it were - and don't I wish?) to answer questions. squees loudly

We left, we loitered, we returned...early. [livejournal.com profile] andeincascade heard [livejournal.com profile] suemc laughing outside the door (no Sentinel hearing needed for that one) and came to let us in a few minutes early. Naturally, we took advantage of this and snaffled the front row.

Soon after that, Garett returned. We'd watched the first two episodes that morning, but the voted for episode was "The Sentinel by Blair Sandburg". Garett, upon seeing "The Sentinel by BS" option on the DVD asked which episode "The Sentinel by bullshit" was.

I've got to admit, I was a bit disappointed that "TS by BS" won the vote. It's not one of my favourite episodes (in fact, that's the second time I've seen it as I really dislike it), and I would have loved to have watched a far more chummy episode or "Cypher". But it was still extremely interesting to hear Garett's views on the episode. He admitted that all the actors hated the last scene and that they'd all argued with the writers who'd finally flipped and just insisted that they shoot it as it was. Naomi came in for a good deal of criticism due to her actions in this episode, and [livejournal.com profile] alibongo attempted to argue that Jim was the only victim. Naturally, most of us disagreed and said that both Jim and Blair were the victims here, which also happens to be my point of view.

Garett explained that the Powers That Be had decided that they didn't want a buddy buddy series; they wanted it to be darker, with more tension, as it was a cop show...hence the feel of the fourth season. GRRRR. Idiots! What the hell did they know?! Garett also related how he argued with the writer of "The Girl Next Door" as he, Garett, wanted to include a line referring to how Jimi Hendrix (the original owner of Blair's guitar) was left-handed, so he played a right-handed guitar strung the other way around. The writer refused point blank, though I have no idea why. Garett's viewpoint was that some viewers are going to be aware of just who Jimi Hendrix was and they might even know that he was left-handed. The writer either disagreed or didn't care.

At one point, though I can't remember how it happened, Garett mentioned slash fanfic. He stated that this was all he was going to say about it and then he was done but, basically, he didn't want to bottom any more. He also claimed that it's the big, brawny guys who like to bottom though I have no idea how he knows that.

I could hear various writers' reactions, and I was honestly, truly thankful that I write gen.

Once the episode had finished, we lined up for our autographs. A set of photos were available to buy once we'd registered for the con, and I bought the set. Two of them are head shots of Garett, while three feature him posing with a golf club. Some people had brought their own photos (of Blair, sometimes with Jim) to be signed, and Garett signed them all, though his hand must have been aching by the end of it.

More to come later!

I'm glad my artistic talents are finally getting the recognition they deserve LOL!
I would like to point out the Parakeet of Justice on your shoulder.

..and I didn't say that Jim was the ONLY victim, just that he didn't have anything to apologise for! but I paid for that comment for the rest of the weekend *Sigh* (it was so awful being teased by Garett!)

It's the Parakeet of Justice. Don't ask me - apparently [livejournal.com profile] alibongo and [livejournal.com profile] gillyp had watched a Richard Burgi film and the Parakeet (or Parakleet??) of Justice had appeared or been mentioned in that. So, when I asked for a parrot to complete my piratical look, that is what I got!

It's a Richard film called Chameleons that I finally managed to get hold of. Gill and I watched it the night before the GM weekend and were bemused most of the way through it because the main character, played by stewart Grainger kept referring to himself as the Parakeet of Justice!! But at one point it is shown written down, and he was actually saying the paraclete of justice! We being ignorant souls didn't know that that meant so, the Parakeet of Justice
just kind of stuck!
(paraclete apparently means strong supporter, champion etc - so I now pronounce myself THE PARACLETE OF JIM!!!)
