New version of the Nigerian scam
Sep. 26th, 2008 04:34 pmI've just got an email from FedEx! They have a parcel for me, and they 'understand' that it contains a bank draft for $800,000. All I need to do is contact their delivery department and arrange delivery.
My 'contact' (who's from the US but is in Nigeria for 3 months working with a construction firm - so he's, like, totally trustworthy) has paid the VAT and shipping charges, as well as insurance fees.
Oh! All I have to do is pay £150 ($300) to the FedEx Delivery Department in "full payment for the Security Keeping Fee of the FedEx Company". My contact wanted to pay them (because he's so caring and, like, totally trustworthy) but FedEx wouldn't let him.
And if I don't reply, they'll contact the "British Commission for Welfare" (whoever they are) as there's no return address.
::rolls eyes:: I'd better go write that £150 cheque ASAP then, hadn't I?
Amazingly, my email programme labelled this as spam. I can't think why.
