I just clicked on my user info page, and cringed. What the hell has happened to it? I've been checking out other people's user info pages, and they all seem to be the same. Please don't say this is the latest 'improvement' from LJ.

Note to LJ: If it ain't broke, leave it the hell alone!

GAH.

I know I'll get used to it (at some point in the far, far distant future) but ::wails:: why did they have to change it?!

In other news, I've just spent hours updating my website. "Why did it take hours?" you innocently ask, unaware of the seething cauldron of hatred bubbling beneath my surface. "Did you have a lot of stories to upload?"

No. Geocities kept on crashing then loading the old pages. I seem to have to save every new or updated page twice before Geocities actually catches on that Lo! There is a new version of this page. ::hates:: I ended up logging into Geocities and loading Pagebuilder at least 6 times tonight. And yes, I'm still having the weird trouble with the layout that I was having beforehand.

So, if anyone knows of any good, reliable webhost that lets people create their own website without too much hassle and without too much cost, can they please let me know? I don't want one that puts out a gazillion pop ups as soon as you so much as look at a link, so I am prepared to pay for one. Just not lots of dosh.

Anyone got any recommendations?

Hmm. I was at my Profile earlier and it was fine. Now it just looks ... weird!

I wish they'd just leave well enough alone! *sigh*

Eeek! You're right about the profiles page! *stares at mine* Huh. Interesting statistics.

I've been using fanfic.tv for several years now - that's where I have my stories (http://fanfic.tv/amedia). It's $20/year, very reliable, and the host is very fan-friendly; she's a Rat Patrol fan herself. You can email her at logomanc @ io.com or klio @ klio.net or leave a message through lj (she's [livejournal.com profile] meritahut).

Thanks for the info about fanfic.tv. $20 a year is really cheap.

And isn't the profile page awful? :o\

I use tripod and am happy with it, but you will need to download a pagebuilder and an uploader. I use Nvu for making my pages - it's easy to learn, though it can freeze now and then, but for free software it's very good and doesn't freeze all that often. And if you got this, you could always ask me for help (though I don't know all the functions myself yet!).

Filezilla is great for uploading and again is free, and very easy to use (and has never crashed or frozen on me once!).

Tripod is fairly cheap - I think I pay about £2-3 a month for it (depends on the exchange rates). It does have a set up fee of $10 as well though. It does offer a free package, and bigger packages that cost more, but I doubt you'd need them!

Thanks, Leesa! I'm going to take a look around at various sites, including Tripod, to see how easy they are to use. I'm just so annoyed with Geocities for being so user UNfriendly. Gah!

I use http://populli.org/ which is great - ad free, quick & easy to set up. It's $33 a year for domain & web hosting, and it's definitely fanfic friendly. I use Dreamweaver to make the actual content, but I'm pretty sure you can use whatever works for you (http://www.callizz.org/index.htm if you want to have a look)

Thanks, Izzie. I've seen Populli recommended before, so that one's tempting.

I'm just so annoyed with Geocities. Then again, I shouldn't expect much from Yahoo!
