1. Reply to this post saying "ME! ME! ME!", and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee.

The Gordian Knot, icon by myself.
Apparently Alexander the Great solved the puzzle of the Gordian Knot by cutting it with his knife instead of taking the time to untie it. It's become a symbol of solving a difficult situation, and it also makes me think of 'thinking outside the box'. I also like all the shades of grey and silver against the matt black background.

I bought a picture in an art shop, of a desert at night, with a bright moon and bright stars, then ended up making an icon out of it as well. That's LJ for you. I love the colours in this, the sand darkening into the mountains, with the sky above them. It appeals to me, visually, and gives me a sense of peace. It's also handy to have a few neutral icons, as lots of mine are fandom or emotion specific.

The quote is from Discworld. I love the Discworld books, and the way Terry Pratchett takes 'known' ideas (like the Tooth Fairy, the house falling on the witch in the Wizard of Oz, the list goes on and on) and turns it on its head to fit into his universe. Also, this is a very useful piece of advice.

"Devil's Cub" is one of my favourite books by Georgette Heyer. The 'cub' in question is Dominic, Marquis of Vidal, son of the Duke and Duchess of Avon (who starred in an earlier book, "These Old Shades"). In this scene, Dominic has just found out that the straw damsel (woman of loose morals) he's run off with is a rather strait-laced lady called Mary who only ran off with him to stop him from ruining her sister. Mary is quite prepared to shoot him to protect her honour, and does so. Of course, once he's sobered up, he's appalled to discover that her reputation is ruined despite nothing having happened - thanks to her shooting him - and insists on marrying her. Not that she'll have him.

Alexander Dane from Galaxy Quest, which is one of my favourite films. I love his character, how he hates his 'character' in the GQ series, but you only ever see him (even in his off hours) in full make up. I also loved his rather resigned "oh, God, this is my life" look in this icon.
So, there's my five!
