No, not the ending but...

What was really, really getting to me was that people were believing Sherlock was a fake! Argh! And Lestrade having to arrest him to question him about the kidnapping of those two kids. ::cries:: Jim was right when he said he was going to burn Sherlock. Taking away his reputation, having people believe he's not a genius, that's what got to Sherlock.

I did love John punching Lestrade's superior officer in the face though. Go, John! \o/ Soooo annoyed with Donovan and Anderson though. Grrr! But Sherlock taking John hostage, and John's, "Yeah, that works!" LOL!

I loved Molly. Sherlock always underestimated her, and he realised that in the end.

As for Moriarty, wow. I'm hoping that he's actually dead, but won't be surprised if his suicide was faked. That reporter though...OMG, woman, get some brains! She was totally played by Moriarty - actually, I can't really blame her for that as he was *so* convincing! I love that his attempt to hoax John at that point failed though. Btw, I'm really impressed with Andrew Scott's acting in this episode. He was totally believable as "Richard Brook" even when you *knew* it was fake.

As for the ending...break my heart, why don't you? Sherlock's "suicide", John trying to get to the body... ::sobs:: And the grave scene. ::bawls like a baby::

However, Sherlock's alive. I'm thinking series three might be really, really short as John is going to kill Sherlock once he turns up again.

LOL! Poor poor John... well, actually poor me - I'm an emotional wreck after that *g*

I'm off to find some fluffy kitten fic to calm myself down...

Hee! Snail, you must be psychic...my latest WIP is a Sherlock fic with Sherlock as a cat forcing Lestrade to adopt him.

I was in tears at the end of the ep.

LOL - Sherlock!kitten fic may be the only thing that stops me chewing on my sleeves... they're going to make us wait at least a year for any more. Ayeeee! I may have forgiven them by then *g*

I might not have. I know Sherlock's alive but John is in so much pain. :o( ::reminds self he's a fictional character::

As for the fic, it's Sherlock!cat. He's about 2 in it. (And he's adorable, though Lestrade isn't seeing him that way yet.)

Very good, I was totally absorbed in the drama. The only disappointment for me is that was the last one - the series has been much too short!

I suspected what would happen given the title of the episode and what I know about the Sherlock Holmes stories but David had no idea and I could see he was taken in!

Poor Mark only saw the first half an hour as he had to go to bed early - up at 5am tomorrow!

Has Mark caught up on it yet? Nancy hasn't seen it yet, but she knows (mostly) what happens from spoilers. She didn't know Sherlock fakes his death though, so that was a shock.

Yes, he watched when it got home from work - so we've been able to talk about it now!

Of course like everyone else are trying to work out how Sherlock did it, and answer the unanswerable questions like, what help did Molly give him?

I know you're not into Doctor Who but if you want to check out some more Stephen Moffat awesomeness, watch the episode Blink from the 2007 series.

It's a stand alone story and "Doctor-lite" yet still one of the best episodes of NuWho. It was based on a story story Moffat wrote for the Doctor Who Christmas annual in 2005 then he extended it into an episode.

Yes I agree. Though we don't see her afterwards to give us any clues whether she's faking her distress at him being dead!

I honestly think Molly would be distressed at the pain John and everyone else is going through, so I don't think she'd even have to fake that. :o(

This was probably the best ep of both series! Totally absorbing, extremely well acted and oh, John! *hugs* I'm so glad he didn't believe Sherlock's 'confession' at the end!! I did think that the suicide had to have been faked, so no big reveal at the end there for me, more relief that that was the case! Don't want to wait for another series!! *cries*

I'm thinking series three might be really, really short as John is going to kill Sherlock once he turns up again.

LOL! Yes! *hugs John and Mrs Hudson and yes, even Mycroft a little (idiot though he was)*

I kinda suspect Mycroft helped in Holmes's little 'death scene'. In the original stories he helped by giving Holmes money to live on, and it would be justice if after giving Moriarty all that ammunition that he would help Holmes go into hiding.

Ah, not having read the books I didn't know that. So yes, there's a good chance Mycroft is involved in helping Sherlock!

I'm thinking I may read one or two of the stories we've had, just to see if a) I like the original books and b) how well Moffat's kept to them! Not reading any we haven't had in S1 or 2 though - don't want to be spoiled that much!!

I don't have en e-reader, but I do have a hubby with a copy of 'The Complete Sherlock Holmes' that he bought years before we met and still owns!! So, I'm all set when I'm ready (got a few books lined up that I want to read first).

Of course, if I get annoyed because the book is Just. Too. Big. And. Heavy - then I could always read on the computer instead, so thanks for letting me know!

I wonder if Mycroft being so indiscreet was part of his and Sherlock's plan. Honestly, I wouldn't put it past either of them. They knew Moriarty was totally obsessed with Sherlock so giving him more information was bad, either way.

I wish we didn't have to wait for another series, but at least series 3 is commissioned so there's (almost) no doubt there'll be one, it's just a case of when. ::is hoping filming's already been scheduled::

I'm pretty sure Moriarty is dead, Moffet has been pretty faithful to the books. (Remember that scene in the 1st series 1st episode where Holmes was beating a corpse? Holmes did that in the book too.) I loved the fact they didn't stray from the original story but changed it enough to make it fresh (if Holmes had fallen off a real waterfall, that would have been lame.)

I'd read a story not long before the episode that reminded me of the way Molly tried to console Holmes. It's called Behavioural Modification by bendingsignpost. It's slash SH/JW. http://bendingsignpost.livejournal.com/12876.html

I know they have series 3 in the works but with Martin being busy with the Hobbit and Benedict in the new Star Trek movie I wonder if we'll have to wait a bit.

I hope, Moffet doesn't make Watson wait 3yrs like Sir Conan Doyle did (heck Sir Conan Doyle made his fans wait 10 yrs before bringing Sherlock back to Watson.)

No wonder there was uproar when ACD killed off Sherlock - no one knew then he'd cave and bring him back!

And I know Moriarty *should* be dead...I just wouldn't be surprised if that was faked. ::is highly suspicious::

Btw, it'd be Sir Arthur, not Sir Conan Doyle. As he was a baronet the title went with his first name, not his last.

No problem. There are numerous things about English titles I get mixed on and I *am* English. I think the baronet thing (Sir firstname) trips a lot of people up.

And, for embarrassing, I've tripped up on the spelling of various names before now - like using 'Freddy' instead of 'Freddie' for my Queen icon. Talk about a 'duh' moment!

Now that I think of it I don't think Sir Arthur Conan Doyle intended to write anymore when he killed off Sherlock. He was genuinely tired of writing him I understand. He wrote 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' that supposedly took place prior to his death. (He wrote it the urging of someone...cannot remember if it was the Queen or his mother, but he did write it because of someone else. For some reason he returned (because of money perhaps?) and went on writing for 23yrs. He was...amazing.

That's what I heard too - that he was sick and tired of Sherlock, so got rid of the character once and for all. Then everyone (even his mother!) begged him to change his mind. I can understand getting tired of a character, especially when it's such a popular character and that's *all* people want to read about!

On a related subject, I wonder if JK Rowling will ever tire of Harry Potter. If she grows to loathe the character, I think she'll be smart enough to never say so.

I know! I think that's the heartbreaking thing about the ep, that *John* believes he's dead and is in such pain. :o( I know we won't get any more John&Sherlock having adventures until he returns, but I want John to know he's alive and okay so he can stop being so heartbroken!
