Friends-locking
Jan. 6th, 2030 08:15 pm
My journal is now partly friends-locked. My locked posts are usually just personal ones, but my finished fanfic (which I post under the name of 'Dimity Blue') is posted unlocked here.
New friends are welcome so if you'd like to read, please comment here and let me know.
If you'd like to friend me just to keep up on my fanfic or my advent calendars, feel free! Just drop me a line if you'd like me to friend you back or I'll assume you're just popping by for fic!
Note: If you're looking for Arnie or Arnie1967, that's me! I just fancied a name change. :oD

Date: 2007-05-07 10:56 pm (UTC)I'm glad you like my fic, thanks. There are a few short stories (usually very silly ones) scattered through my LJ. If you follow the link to my website (on my profile and at the top of this page) they're posted on there too.

Date: 2007-05-10 01:32 pm (UTC)I found your short snippets & enjoyed them a lot - can't have too much a good thing!
Oh, and did I see that you're a Chalet School fan? Me too! It took me about 2 decades, but I've finally got the whole lot, so I was fascinated to see that it might be possible to get the original rather than the cut-down versions now.
You might want to sit down for this next bit. Somewhere, I came across a Pros/Chalet School crossover, & it was a riot! Completely daft, but hysterically funny in a toe-curling ("limp, grey, and to all appearance, dead") kind of way. If you're intrigued, I'll see if I can track it down, but I quite understand if the whole idea strikes you as completely weird!

Date: 2007-05-10 02:15 pm (UTC)Talking of Mary Lou, I've just got Three Go to the CS, the uncut version. It's practically unbelievable how much gets cut out. There's a whole subplot about Gillian Linton meeting Clem's Godfather, Peter Young, and getting engaged to him. The Armada version skipped that out completlely!
If you're interested, Girls Gone By publishers are here:

I have mine on standing pre-order with a supplier as it's £1 cheaper per book that way. Also, I don't have to worry about missing a book because I forgot it was coming out. :oD
Btw, do you write gen or slash Pros? I know most of the writers are slash but I really can't see the guys that way at all. Where are your fics posted?

Date: 2007-05-10 04:08 pm (UTC)Thanks for the link to Girls Gone By - I shall definitely investigate that. I think I recall some mention in a later book about Gillian Linton marrying Clem's godfather (is he a doctor, by any chance?) but it would be nice to have more details. That phrase has become a standing joke for my daughter & me - she's read them all too, at least twice. I think the Armada sabotage which most irritated me was the CS Fete/A Genius at the CS debacle - the editions I've got don't even make sense, with scenes from one half-term mixed up with scenes from the other, all out of sequence. Drives me mad!
My Pros stuff (not much of it!) is mostly at http://www.thecircuitarchive.com - two of the stories are slash (though very mild), but the one called "Brightly Shone the Moon" isn't.
I couldn't see it at first, but then, after immersing myself in gen for quite a while, I strayed across the line, read some terrific stories and am now a convert, although I still love a good gen story too. Bifictional, that's me!

Date: 2007-05-10 04:34 pm (UTC)They haven't republished CS Fete or Genius yet. As they were originally (if I remember rightly) one book, that should be an interesting book to read! Armada really messed with some books - the full version of School at the Chalet was double the width of the ordinary Armada one.
As for Peter Young, he was not, for once (how many of them married doctors?!), a doctor - he was an artist. I'm sure in one of the later books he donates a painting to the school or is offered a commission to paint Madame's portrait.

Date: 2010-01-03 06:34 pm (UTC)Or there's this (http://arnie1967.livejournal.com/446938.html#cutid1), but I don't think that was it.
If the first wasn't it but you remember anything more about it, let me know and I'll look again. Okay?

Date: 2013-03-04 06:29 pm (UTC)I've been clearing out people who seem to have moved on from LJ. I thought you'd stopped posting.
I'll add you again since you're still around. :o)

Date: 2014-11-22 12:54 am (UTC)You're fics in SGA are what I'm most interested in, and White Collar too. I'd very much like to read stuff, if you don't mind, and I can leave comments/reviews when done. :)
Nice to meet you, and I like how your journal looks-it's very pretty! :D

Date: 2014-11-22 05:45 pm (UTC)My SGA fic is posted here and it isn't friends locked. It's also posted on AO3. I haven't written any White Collar, sorry.
Here's my SGA fic on AO3 (http://archiveofourown.org/users/Arnie/works?fandom_id=70). If you check out my tags on the left of my page, my SGA fic is under 'Fic: SGA'.
If you'd still like to friend me and be friended in return, just let me know. Either way, I hope you enjoy my SGA fic. :o)

Date: 2014-11-22 07:41 pm (UTC)I'd very much like being friends, if it's alright. I could always use more friends in the SGA fandom, especially those with a good sense of humor.
Also: It seems that everyone has read DL Sayers but me. I've been hearing references to the author alot lately, are they really good?

Date: 2014-11-23 11:03 pm (UTC)I'm not really active in the SGA fandom. I read some fic, and I'm hoping to finish more SGA fic at some point, but that's about all. I like the series though. *hopes it counts* Anyway, I've friended you back so you might feel it's too late to run. :oD
As for DL Sayers, I think her books are really good and well worth reading. Most of them are set in the 20s and 30s, and feature Lord Peter Wimsey as the hero. My favourites are Murder Must Advertise (where he goes under cover in an advertising firm to catch a murderer), Have His Carcase (the woman he loves discovers a dead body on a beach), and Busman's Honeymoon (he and Harriet finally marry...and promptly stumble over a dead body in their honeymoon house).
Harriet Vane first appears in Strong Poison where she's on trial for murder, though Peter's convinced she's innocent. If you decide to read any of the Harriet books, you might want to start with that one.
As an aside, apparently DL Sayers spent some years working in an advertising firm, so Murder Must Advertise is fascinating (to me, anyway) as that's what an actual advertising firm was like. Well, without the blackmail and murder. :oD
