U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites.

John Watson from Sherlock (though I love all the main characters so much). IMO, John tries so hard to be ordinary. He's a woolly jumper wearing doctor - talk about cuddly and comfortable! But he was also a soldier. He's a healer who can and will kill, though only if it's necessary. John's a thrill seeker - he follows Sherlock because it makes his life exciting again. John seems to be such a very ordinary person - especially when he's standing in Sherlock's shadow - but he's not. Even though he'd deny it to his last breath.

Rodney McKay from Stargate: Atlantis. Sarcastic, impatient, ascerbic...why on Earth would anyone like Rodney McKay? It's because, inside, he's the geeky bullied kid from school who thinks he's only allowed to sit with the cool kids because of his bigger than average brain. Rodney has a vulnerable streak a mile wide, but he hides it with insults about your lack of intelligence while he reinforces how mentally superior he is. But if you get behind that loud, obnoxious outer wall he uses to keep people at bay, he'll lay his life on the line to defend you. Plus, there's a lot to be said for a man who prioritises coffee and chocolate.

Elias from Person of Interest. Don't think I like him better than John or Harold or Fusco or Carter though - there's just something about Elias. He's ordinary to look at - not very tall, a bit podgy, balding...but he has an immense personal charm. He's fully aware of who and what he is, and he makes no excuses for it. He is completely ruthless - for instance, he'll use John's better nature against him in order to get information he wants. But he's honest in his own way. He owes Carter a debt, so he repays her the only way he can: By having her murderer killed. If he wasn't a mob boss, I could have seen Elias being an incredible force for good. What a shame.

I adore your take on Rodney, it was so him! I fell in love with that character from his SG1 days and was ecstatic when he became a lead character on Atlantis.
