9 What's the most expensive thing that you've had eaten by a pet?

Fortunately, none of my pets tended to eat stuff. My dog, Hobbes, once chewed up one of my mum's brand new books but that was all.

So, the answer is a book. I think we got off lightly. I've heard of people whose dog ate the wall.

My mother's hearth rug got well and truly chewed by our golden retriever once, when she was about six months old, and just settling in (she was a rescue). It wouldn't have been worth much though. And the yellow lab had something of a taste for socks, which sometimes came a cropper as a result. Mind you, that might have been at least partly my fault for playing tug of war with him. And them. :)

I remember seeing news footage once of how a half-grown Irish Wolfhound puppy had completely shredded the inside of its owner's car when left alone for a bit.
