Elaine (my aunt) was popping in today to drop off laundry. She rang me to say she was on her way, then rang again 15 minutes later to say she was outside and couldn't get in because my front path had been freshly cemented.

Awesome! It's been a trip hazard for years, so it's great that it's finally fixed. Only...

...No one told me. And I have carers 4 times a day who don't need to be Mission: Impossibling their way over my roof in order to get to me.

Fortunately, Elaine spotted that the trees next door have been tied back so there's a small gap for able-bodied people to get through from their path to by my front door. Me and my tank of an electric wheelchair would not make it through.

I wonder if I'll get a letter next week stating they're fixing my path on the 9th and to contact my housing association if it needs to be rescheduled?

1. What Hogwarts house would you be sorted into?
I'd say Ravenclaw but I'm lousy at riddles.

4. If you could eliminate one thing that you did every day, what would it be?
Being got up by carers. It'd be lovely to get myself up and ready for the day without any help.

5. Your rescue team in the coming zombie apocalypse is the cast of the last tv show you watched. How screwed are you?
Ha! Person of Interest. If anyone can survive it, they can.

6. What is something you do to indulge yourself?
Get cream cakes once a week or so. Yum!

28. Do you write in cursive?
Yep. It's more difficult than it was, thanks to the muscular dystrophy, but I still do.

29. If you could witness any event of the past, present, or future, what would it be?
Anything? Wow... Okay:

The first powered flight by man.

The first powered flight was Henri Giffard's steam-powered airship in 1852. On Sept. 24, 1852, Giffard traveled almost 17 miles (27 kilometers) from Paris to Trappes moving at about 6 miles per hour (10 kilometers/hour). His airship could be steered only in calm weather, though. In wind, it could fly only in slow circles.

I'd also want to see the Wright Brothers' first flights in 1903, but that first powered flight by airship? Can you imagine?

30. Do you have a favorite painting? (Post a picture?) Possibly:

But I have a weakness for most of the Impressionists.

31. Do you swear a lot?
Not as much as I used to.

This poor lady only wants to sweep up the leaves!

Remember this post? Remember the comment by the lovely people at Squeaky Bean?

I did as directed and DMed them on Instagram, and a parcel arrived today. They sent me the cutest apron (navy blue with Tuck Into Tasty on the front) and a rather snazzy looking water bottle!

Ooh - I found a pic of the bottle and apron online.

You can see the apron in the background. Awesome or what? Do Squeaky Bean rock or do Squeaky Bean rock?

26. What did you enjoy doing most today?
Talking to my friend Christine on the phone.

27. If you knew 100% that you wouldn't get caught, would you do anything illegal, immoral, or maybe just embarrassing? Tell us about it.
I probably wouldn't...but I'd be really tempted to target wealthy and corrupt people and drain their bank accounts and assets to £1 while redistributing their wealth to charitable organisations.
dimity_blue: (InsideOutJoy)
It's actually a tunic by Joe Browns but it's long enough to wear as a dress as it goes past my knees. It's one of my favourites because of the bands of ribbon and how comfortable it is.

I'm really not keeping up with this! Oh, well.

24. If you won a huge lottery, with more money than you could use, what charitable organization or civic donation would you fund?
Hillside Animal Sanctuary. Their patron is Martin Shaw and they focus on helping farm animals, but they seem to help any animal in need. They also run undercover investigations to expose cruelty in the farming industry and the sanctuary is home to over 2,500 animals. I first heard about them from a campaign to raise the funds to save Benjy the bull from the slaughterhouse in Ireland. Hillside offered him a forever home but he needed to get there first. Boris had been intended to be a stud bull only it turned out he didn't like girl cows.

If you ever want to make my day, please give them a bale of hay for £4.

25. What three fictional characters (from film, TV, or books) do you most strongly identify with?
Barbara Buncle from Miss Buncle's book (D E Stevenson). She's shy and withdrawn at first and is frequently overlooked and ignored.

Mary Bennet from Pride & Prejudice (Jane Austen). While I'm not sanctimonious and I hope I'm nowhere near as tone-deaf as Mary, I identify with her feeling of being completely alone and out of step with everyone around her.

Abigail Wendover from Black Sheep (Georgette Heyer). She has far more charm than I could hope for, but she has a bad habit of sacrificing her wants for her sister and niece.
dimity_blue: My cat Daisy (Daisy)
So, Daisy comes through the door and up the hall, shouting all the way. I bolt down the last of my breakfast and rush over to where she's sitting and offer her a stroke.

She gleefully accepts and happily licks my hand and... Wait, what is that that's so much more interesting than communing with my human? It's Whiskas Temptation biscuits!

With that, Daisy promptly abandons me to go rushing over for some crunchy goodness. At least I know where I stand in her life! *is not impressed*
dimity_blue: (Hearts)
Not so good:

It looks like Ocado will no longer be selling Squeaky Bean products. They're vegetarian fake chicken nuggets and fake fish fingers. Tesco, Asda, and Sainsbury's sell some (two!*) Squeaky Bean products but none of them have the fish fingers and only Asda sells the nuggets. It's irritating since I really like them. I'm hoping I can find them elsewhere.

*And, of those two, one contains yeast which I have to avoid.

Good:

Ian, the optician, has just been with my new glasses. My eyesight has barely changed at all in the 3 years since my last test. I got new reading glasses in red and a pair of prescription sunglasses in blue. Ian also spent a few minutes adoring Daisy. He said he's got 2 cats himself - a laid back older cat and a very energetic 10 month old who launches himself through the air in an attempt to catch flies.

And the carers continue to be lovely. They're not perfect (obviously) but their attitude towards me is a world away from the way my older carers treated me. I'm no longer reminding myself I only have to see them for less than 2 hours a day. I could honestly cry at the relief of not having to deal with the others.

I've just finished watching the Person of Interest episode Proteus (season 2, ep 17). It's such a good episode.

My poor carers! Whenever I get one alone, I try to turn them into a Person of Interest fan. So far, I've got 3 interested in taking a look at the series.

I subscribed to the ITV hub on Amazon because they had a few series I wanted to watch, namely The Darling Buds of May, Poirot, and The Professionals. With The Darling Buds of May, the series was taken off ITV hub with no notice while I was partway through an episode. With Poirot and The Professionals, some episodes were available and some weren't, and the available episodes changed without notice, which was really frustrating. Then The Professionals entire seasons disappeared and the remastered and restored versions appeared on Amazon Prime instead.

I've cancelled ITV hub now. It was more hassle than it was worth trying to keep track of which episodes I'd seen and trying to watch an ep before it disappeared. It seems an odd way to run a TV channel.

9. What's unique about you, that's different from everyone else you know?
My DNA! *is a smartarse*

10. Would you rather get away with any lie you told or always know when someone else is lying?
Always know when someone else is lying. Don't waste my time with lies. I've realised I have very little patience with them.

11. Everyone always thinks they'd be royalty or a knight if they were born in Medieval times, but let's be honest, you probably wouldn't be. So, what kind of person do you think you'd be if you were born in medieval times?
A peasant, most probably. If I was lucky, I'd be able to enter a nunnery.

12. If you could implant one false memory in the minds of everyone in your country, what would that memory be?
The memory of really being loved. I think most people with issues don't have that. I hope it would help.

5. Would you rather be the main character in a fantasy story, a sci-fi story, or a horror story?

A fantasy!
