Book meme - day 1
Apr. 25th, 2020 09:49 amThis is off Facebook but I'm changing it for here.
For 10 days, post the cover of a book you like and challenge someone else to join in.
Today, I challenge
thisbluespirit to post the meme too.
Today's book cover is:

Miss Buncle's Book by D.E. Stevenson.
This was the first D.E. Stevenson book I read and it's adorable. Written in the early 1930s, it's about Barbara Buncle who attempts to earn money by writing a book about the village she lives in. Unfortunately for her, the book is a smash hit and half the villagers go on the warpath to track the author down.

366 Question Meme for 2020 - 23rd April
Apr. 23rd, 2020 05:39 pm23. Again, fair folk, the day has come to speak
As if the Bard had writ the words for you.
But if blank verse sits not upon thy lips,
Then grace us with your thoughts about his plays.
Happy Talk Like Shakespeare Day! If speaking in blank verse all day is impractical for you, just tell us which of Shakespeare's plays is your favorite and why.
Much Ado About Nothing. It's probably the obvious reason but I like how Benedict and Beatrice end up together.

366 Question Meme for 2020 - 15th April
Apr. 15th, 2020 12:14 pm15. It's income tax day in the U.S. What do you enjoy the most that your tax dollars provide for society?
I'm in the UK, so my answer is the NHS. It's clunky, unwieldy, desperate for more nurses, doctors, and funding...but it provides healthcare for one and all. You might have to wait for appointments, not all treatments are covered, and not all doctors are worth seeing, but it's an amazing system that keeps on going. Long may it reign!

Chalet School books
Apr. 15th, 2020 11:58 amIf anyone's curious to read one, the Open Library has a few you can borrow. The School at the Chalet is the first book.
I've missed a number of days, I know.
10. Do you prefer to write with a pen, pencil, or other writing utensil?
A pen, if I'm writing something out. If I'm writing (as in a story), I type using my mouse to click the letters on an onscreen keyboard. It's horribly slow.
11. It's Celebrate Teen Lit Day! What's a favorite book from your teen years?
The Princess of the Chalet School. It was a tatty little Armada paperback and was given to me by my much-loved Auntie Vi (my Grandma's sister). It introduced me to the wonderful world of the Chalet School by Elinor M. Brent-Dyer. The original series was 60 books long and covered the years from 1928 to the late 60s. The books set just before and during WW2 are especially interesting.
12. What is your favorite snack food?
Chocolate or biscuits, espcially jammy dodgers.
13. What sorts of things are you most likely to buy at a thrift store or second-hand shop?
Bric à brac.
14. It's Perfume Day today. What are your favorite perfumes and colognes?
Vanderbilt or Yardley's violets.
