More email lies

I've just pissed off Elaine (and not for the first time). She sent me an anti-Muslim email, supposedly written by Nonie Darwish (the spelling of that might be wrong), slamming Muslims, Muslim practises and warning how, in 20 years' time, there'll be enough Muslims in the UK and US to elect their own choice of Prime Minister or President.

I Googled a line and it was fake. What a surprise. Elaine phoned just as I was googling it, so I told her. Her response, "I got it from Karen." (Our cousin.) Which has what to do with it?

"Well, it's fake. Google is our friend," I replied.

"I can't use Google at work, so I'd have to do it at home, and at 9 o'clock at night, that ain't happening."

"So don't send it on," I said.

"All right, all right - chill!"

I kept my voice calm (as it had been all the way through this) and said, "Just sayin', if you don't know it's true, don't send it on."

At that point she said she had to go. I know it's more than likely she'll continue sending this crap but just not send it to me.

Still, well done for trying. I do hate those things. I have a rule that I don't forward on emails, or even open obvious forwards.

Unless they contain binary cows, but I haven't seen one with binary cows in since 1998.

I knew she'd flip her lid when I mentioned it, I just couldn't *not* mention it, you know?

I don't bother forwarding on junk either. What's the point? Even if it's at all amusing (obviously not the racist lies ones), most people have seen them anyway.

I never understand why people send stuff without checking it first! Is it that they're gullible or that they just don't care? *rolls eyes*

Mix of both? Assuming the person they got it from thinks it's true, therefore it must be? Elaine's first reply was, "I got it from Karen." (Our cousin.) Which means absolutely zilch to me except that Karen didn't bother to Google it either.

Anti Muslim stuff annoys me anyway, had a row with someone on Facebook about one of these types of things, it had some facts but was mostly a concoction of 3 or 4 different stories made into another.

Sadly, many people pass these things on without checking and it becomes "fact" and it's easy to blame what are perceived as foreigners for things :-(

It's usually anti-Muslim too, have you noticed? Obviously, they're the bogey man under the bed or something ridiculous like that.

This one had some true stuff that I've read in other (far more reputable) places, but it was mixed in with lies to add to the scaremongering at the end.

Yes, there's that it I'm afraid :-( Though many people would condemn the EDL thugs, they still blame the Muslims for taking houses, jobs etc. The thing which always amuses me is the nonsense about their religion taking over and ruling us is firstly a complete misunderstanding of how laws in this country are made and ignorance of the fact that we are actually one of the very few countries that are still ruled by people with religious power, the bishops who sit in the house of lords!

I think that's the whole point. It comes off as inciting hatred. If people stood up in public and started spouting this crap, they'd be arrested for it, I suspect.
