In all the furore over Harry and Meghan, I find this Buzzfeed article fascinating.

It highlights the difference in how the press covers Kate vs. Meghan. Like Kate tenderly cradling her baby bump vs. Meghan "is it pride, vanity, acting or a new age bonding technique?"

I think my favourite is Meghan endangered Charlotte's life by having lily of the valley flowers in her wedding. Kate also had lily of the valley flowers in her wedding but there was no implication she was trying to off one of her bridesmaids.

If someone was continuously posting crap like this about me, I'd be all, "Screw it, I'm out."

I forgot to post this yesterday.

11. Have you ever been asked for your telephone number and you didn't want to give it? What did you do?
Never happened to me. I've been something of a recluse all my life.

12. Have you ever had a "crush" on a fictional character?
Ha! When haven't I? Isn't that completely normal?

10. What was the last film you saw at a theatre/cinema?

Uh, possibly The Return of the King. Yes, the LOTR one. I know! I don't get out much.

I recently read that Peter Jackson (the director) is an arachnophobe so he based Shelob (huge, ultra-terrifying spider) on all the spider attributes he found most terrifying.

Thanks for that, Peter!

There's an Isaac Asimov story called The Ugly Little Boy in which a Neanderthal child is snatched through time and kept in a stasis bubble for a few years as an experiment.

He's looked after by Miss Fellowes, a nurse, who grows to love Timmie (as she names him).

Timmie's a prisoner in the stasis bubble as it would expend far too much energy to let him cross into this timeline fully.

Spoilers here.

8. Would you rather live in a deep-sea station or a space station?

Space station. The deep sea is freaky.

Anyone care to give me a hand with this address? The 1861 census taker had interesting writing.

If it helps, the area is St. Martins, Liverpool, UK. It was in Lancashire at the time.

7. In the U.S., each state has a "state flower." If you’re in the U.S., what is your state flower? If you live elsewhere, does your region or country have flower that represents it? (Post a picture?)

I'm in England and our national flower is the Tudor rose.

6. Tell about an "Aha!" moment you’ve had.

Years ago, I was watching a documentary on the Spanish Armada. They were trying to invade the Isle of Wight but the tide was going out as they were trying to reach the beach. The documentary had this handy little graphic showing the ships plowing forward through the waves but they were actually being driven backwards because of the tide.

I jumped in my seat because I realised it was the Theory of Relativity. It still makes me smile to think of it.

4. What one thing are you looking forward to in 2020?

The latest Jumanji. I really enjoyed the 2017 version, so I hope the 2019 one is as good.

Arkenrocks by Cimila.

The thing Gandalf neglected to mention when he assured Thorin Oakenshield and Company that Bilbo Baggins of Bag End would be the perfect thief for their mission was this:

A Hobbit wouldn't be able to tell a diamond from a pearl, or from an Arkenstone - no matter how hard they try.

This leads to some confusion, on Bilbos part. And some frustration, again on Bilbos part.

(What sort of a description was 'heart of the mountain', anyway? A useless one, that's what.)

This is absolutely hilarious. I really feel for Bilbo as he keeps on trotting in and out of the mountain trying to find the Arken-thingy ("you'll know it when you see it").

1st January: What is one thing you’d like to accomplish in 2020?

Get my novel finished and published, even if it's only self-published. Though I'd be over the moon if any publisher liked it enough to publish.

If Sci-Fi movies mentioned 2020, it was always very hi-tech. The computers might have been the size of washing machines, but there were flying cars, humanoid robot servants (usually homicidal), and lots and lots of polyester.

Did any of them predict teeny tiny computers you could fit in your pocket? No. But, if they had, would they have been homicidal?

Anyway, despite the lack of flying cars, 2020 it is. I hope it's a kind and gentle year for us all. *hugs*
